Newby 300 ammo choice

Hey folks new member here. Recently acquired a Winchester Model 70 XTR sporter in 300 wby and was drawn for moose here on the Canadian prairies. I have the original Bushnell Scopechief VI 3x9x38 dialled in pretty decent at 200 yds, the guns doing its part I’m sure. I bought 150 gr spire points, 150gr Nosler Partitions(what I sighted it in with), and 180gr TTSX. I won’t take a shot longer than 350yds, and likely in the 200 yd range(comfort zone). I figured the 150 noslers were an ideal choice for moose but The more I read, the more I think I should opt for the 180 TTSX and head back to the range. Am I overthinking this? Opinions appreciated

Both will work, but the 150gr will cause a lot of meat damage at those ranges, and I wouldn't try for a shoulder shot with the 150's. The 180's will be better, if your rifle will shoot them accurate. Anything under 1.5 moa is lots for moose at those ranges. I'm a canuck from the praires also.  8)

I agree with catskinner I'd go with the 180s if they are accurate in your rifle, otherwise the 150 partitions. The 150 spire points would be a last resort,  Welcome to the Nation. They're quite a few Weatherby fanatics here!!!

Welcome. I'd feel better with the 180,if you gun likes them. Good luck. GJ

Success!!
I stuck with 150gr Nosler partitions and they performed incredibly. Broadside shot at 120-140yds, both lungs were hit and I couldn’t find a big enough piece to confirm where the heart ended up. He took one step and the 36” bull dropped right there. It blew through a rib going in and another one exiting with a hole the size of a quarter. Minimal meat loss and zero tracking. Very impressive.

Meat is at the butcher and should have my euro mount back in a few weeks, will post pics when I get it back. Not huge but I’m pretty proud.

Is it safe to assume it's your frist moose  :D ?  It's always funny when a hunter takes his frist moose, walks up to it and thinks holy sh*t this is quite big and a lot of meat. hahaha  ;D  You have a lot of good eating there  8)

You’d be right, my first moose and I was amazed at the size of it when we walked up on it and also retrieving it from the small ravine full of dead-fall, that was 4 hours to get it 120yds!!  The sask prairie isn’t as flat and tree less as some say.

Hahahaha, yep, after you put one down, the real work begins. What zone were you drawn in? I'm in zone 45.

I was in 41.  They were moving around alot, saw them all day, 12 in 2.5 days, but with so much standing crop, it was hard to get at them
