Hornady GMX projectiles

Have a 257 and 270 Weatherby Mag and am going to start doing reloads.   What is your experience with this bullet.   I am looking to load 100 gr in my 257 and 130 gr in my 270.   Shot ranges are 60 to 150-200 yds max with most being 75 to 150 yds.  Any shared thoughts or experiences are appreciated.

100 grain TSX out of the 257.Oil the 270 up good and put her away.You won't need her anymore.

I’ve got Barnes TTSX and I’m going to load them.  There’s a lot of good feedback on that round.   I also got some Hornady GMX and was wondering about users experience with that round

Hahahahaha! I was about to say the same about 130s in the 270Wby making the 257 superfluous!

In all seriousness, the 130 is perfect in the 270Wby. Think about IMR7828ssc, Accurate MagPro, and RL19. You should get 3400-3500fps before you are over pressure. I personally have and good results with the 130gr Nosler E-Tips, but it took some fanagling with seating depth. StRt them deeper than you would lead core stuff, by .050-.100". I also had good groups from Barnes TTSX and Hornady Interbonds. The Barnes fouled too much for my liking, and I ended up going with the E-Tips. I've been imminently satisfied with them in both my 270Wby and my 300Wby. The deer around here hate them.

The 270 was my first Weatherby Mark 5 and if I could only have one it would be that one.  I’m holding it in the picture above.   Thankfully I’m glad I don’t have to make that choice!

Looking in the reloading books, Reloader 22 seemed like a good powder choice for both 257 and 270- do you have any experience with that one?

Yes.  And 130 gr for 270.  The Barnes are 100 gr

Guess it was just to be faster than the 270 win, can't think of any other reason 😜😂

Those of us who shoot the 270Wby often wonder what the allure of the 257 is. The 270 was first (the first, in fact) and it's just slightly flatter and faster with equal weight for caliber bullets (comparable SDs), so it truly does everything the 257 does, and a bit more.

To your question, IFeelRecoil, I haven't tried RL22 in my 270Wby, having found IMR7828ssc and MagPro to be excellent performers. I'm sure it would be fine, but my use of it in 300Wby showed me a lack of consistency so I dont use it much at all.

+1 .257  Dan Weatherby posted here that his grandad Roys favorite deer caliber was the .257 Wby.

you just have to humour these 257 guys, great guys, and they mean well, but even though they wont admit it, deep down, they know the 257 takes the hind titty to the 270 for on game performance

The GMX is made from gilding metal as is the E-Tip. Should not have the metal fouling issue and increased pressure that comes with the softer pure copper bullets from any manufacturer. GJ
