Rechambering to a 224

Rechambering usually cost around $200 your smith will probably have to rent a reamer also and the bolt face will need modifying and probably some work on feeding and magazine box.No idea the cost on those.Very doable you will just have to call some smiths for some estimates.

I'm a little confused. You have a .223 now but you want to use a 700 or Mark V action and make it a 224? The Mark V action is really overkill for a 224. I'm assuming you're talking about Valkrie so correct me if I'm wrong. I would go with the 700 simply because it's so simple to change the barrel and be right where you want to be. The Vanguard/Howa 1500 action might be a second choice since it also has a screw on barrel but the threads are metric and while it is gaining traction there are only a few barrel makers that are willing to accommodate it. That is changing so don't rule it out.

He could get a short action Mark V, and built the 224 on it.  I have a 223 Mark V Accumark and love that rifle, more accurate than I'll ever be.  .

Yes I am thinking 224 bee as this is a bee site
There is a few people that have had a gunsmith from Wyoming do this conversion and were very pleased with it.  I was hoping to find out who that was and if he still does it
I have the 700 but have found a mark v 223
I really prefer the mark v action

I think the mag box may be the most difficult part of the conversion because of the diameter of the case.Not saying that it's impossible or will be hard to do.Just saying that's the toughest of the 3 things to be done.

I was thinking Valkrie not 224 Weatherby Mag. The 700 action threw me in that direction.

Do we think there would be a market for a run of Vanguards in the 224 Weatherby? How about the Accuguard or H-Bar with a faster twist rate seeing how popular the new long range 22s are getting. Lots of 224 brass is available. Hint hint.

I was responding to MM's post but since we're here why would you need to change barrel even if going to Valkyrie? I guess the twist rate could come into play but most newer 223s are going to be fast anyway.

Plus if your gonna be slinging I'd rather be called Betty than Nancy please
