Just got a new 300 wby , what would you guys sight it in for when hunting elk out to 4ooyds. I will be using 180 accubonds or partitions out of a 24" barrel. If this is in wrong place, I apologize

Do you have a chronograph or access to one? This will give a true velocity so you can sight in accurately. GJ

Not knowing exactly how fast you are shooting but using Factory Weatherby Select Plus Ammo with 180 Accubonds. I have attached a 200 yd and a 250 zero table that might help you decide.

Roger gave some good insight above. Knowing your velocity at the muzzle is a real key, but can be extrapolated if you have a range and can shoot out the distances for your range card so you know what the bullet will do at all ranges you're going to shoot. Of course, you should shoot out your range card, to be sure, regardless. Otherwise you're guessing on game, and that's an ethical issue, in my opinion.

Thanks for the help guys, no chronograph. I will be shooting factory select plus 180. I will shoot out to 400 for sure, just wondering what everyones thoughts were

I zero my 300's in at 3 inches high @ 100 yards. Depending on the speed of your ammo, that would put you close to zero @ 300 yards and about 8-9 inches low @ 400 yards. Elk have an approx., kill zone of 20 -24 inches, so that sight in will put a bullet in the kill zone out to 400 yards nicely. But, practice shooting out to those ranges, and see what your ammo is doing.

Completely agree with this strategy.

My current elk load for my .300 Weatherby is Barnes 180 grain TTSX bullets at 3248 fps muzzle velocity.  When I got my Leupold VX 3i 4.5-14x40 CDS scope for it I range tested this load with 3 shot groups out to 430 yards so Leupold could make a CDS turret for it.

This load shoots +1" at 100 yards, Zero at 200 yards, -9" at 300 yards, and -19" at 430 yards.

Knowing your bullet's muzzle velocity and it's Ballistic Coefficient, you can plug that info into one of the free ballistic programs and it will calculate your bullet drop at any range based on your 100 yard impact.

I did that with my previous scope on my .300 Weatherby and my 168 grain TTSX load.  That load gave me +2.5" at 100 yards, +3" at 150 and 200 yards, -1" at 300 yards, -5" at 350 yards, and -10 " at 400 yards.  Again, I range verified that data with 3 shot groups at 1, 2, 3, and 400 yard targets.

There are lots of good recommendations here. I chrono factory Weatherby ammo and then use a ballistics program that I have on my phone to figure out the point blank distance. I zero at that and then make up a dope sheet that I tape to the butt. All that is good and well but if you don't have time to break out the range finder and get an accurate distance then it's not going to help a lot. So to counter that little problem, I spend a lot of time out in the desert practicing and getting used to estimating distances based on the landscape, trees, bushes etc. When I get to the point where I can hit a target without any assistance my confidence level goes way up and I'm ready to hunt.

Yeah, I know that's old school but I like doing it that way.

200yard zero.
With that zero, what is the point of impact or drop at 400 yards?

I zero my non-ballistic reticle setups for 2 high at 100 yards and work out the drop for various ranges using a ballistic calculator and shooting at the range to verify.

Terminator. Can you post me a chart for 200 yard zero for .30-378 with. 180 grain accubonds in weatherby factory ammunition. From 26 barreled accumark

Wish he could!!! Roger passed away in December!!!  :( :( :(

I would suggest zeroing at 250.
