Just bought a MK V wooden stock. Gun is immaculant, no dents or scratches on wood and metal is excellent. Paid $1000 put the door. Just happened in to closest cabelas. Didn't even know it was there even though I go there atleast once a week. It was hidden in corner. Now to decide what bullet to use for deer. I'm thinking partition

For deer I shoot Nosler .284 150 grain Ballistic Tips in my Mark V Stainless . Years ago I made my longest shot(419 yards)
ever on a whitetail  with that bullet out of my Mark V.  He folded right up DRT.

I have a Mark V in 7mm as well.  I love it.  what year is yours?  Here's a group i just shot with 140 grain Partitions.  There's 4 shots in that group to the left of the quarter.

I can only narrow down mfg date to between 2004-2016. I called Wby amd thats what I was told. S/N is PB049838 if anyone can help narrow it down. I would like to stay away from BTs. After my Accubond fiasco i sure dont trist a ballistic tip. Anything i should. Worry about with this ctg ?

The 7mm Weatherby Mag is a fast and relatively flat shooter. Don't use a long range bullet like the Accubond or Barnes LRX for short range hunting. The Hornady ELD-X is good for shorter (0 to 250 yards) distances as is the Barnes TXS and the Nosler Partition. Stay away from soft nosed bullets unless you're reaching way out there. I don't have the Weatherby 7mm mag but I do have a T/C with a 7mm Rem Mag barrel that I shoot occasionally when I'm bored.

I was thinking about the partitions, Longest shot out of my stand is about 200yds. Any suggestion on bullet weight ?
Also, should i think about a break on this gun ? I know it wont kick like my 340...lol

Valleysnyper: The recoil is nothing like a 340, I know I have both. My 7mm Wby. is fairly light because it is a deluxe with the 24" barrel. No need for a brake unless you just want one. The 150g part. will do everything you need, I am running them at 3250fps and IMR 7828 or RL 26 works well.

I had good results with the factory 154 gr SP, 160 gr partition, and 175 gr SP loads. But if 200 yards is your long shot, I would likely try the 120 or 140 gr TTSX load for deer, depends on what the rifle likes.

Anyone have expansion problems with the Barnes at close range ?

Congrats on the new rifle! I shoot 150gr Nosler Partitions in my 7mm Wby. I typically prefer either bonded, partition, or a-frames in big magnum rifles at speeds >3000 fps. They seem to hold together better than the more aggressive expanding bullets.

Years ago I shot a bobcat with my 240 Wby stoked with a 95gr Nosler Ballistic tip. That bullet completely blew up and put an exit wound the size of a cantaloupe in it's shoulder. Had that been a deer, a decent amount of meat would have been wasted.

Back to the 7mm Wby... Right now, I'm planning on taking mine with me to Africa next summer. It will be my first hunt there and should be a perfect fit for plains game.

that is why I would likely use the 120 or 140 TTSX at the close ranges you hunt. The high speed and lighter bullet will help with expansion on game.

Valleysnyper: I know you are concerned about the ballistic tips, but I have been using them for 35 years and have shot many deer large and small and friends have shot dozens more and many elk also with no failures. There will be no exspantion problems either. If you are hunting deer quick exspantion is what you want and if you loose a pound of meat so what, dead on the spot is more important.

One of the best all around bullets I've used in my 7mm Wea is the 145 gr Barnes LRX. For me it is a do-all weight espically when launched at 3327 ft/sec.

I also have a 7mm mag made in japan 1983 or 84.It has the 24 inch pencil barrel, that I just love.Light weight, beautiful wood stock deluxe. It really shoots 140 gr Barnes TTSX loads stoked with 75.5 grs of H1000 col 3.260
