Winchester Super X 150g Power Point .308

My .308 Vanguard S2 does not like this ammunition. Nope, nada, not even a little. LOL.. These are spitzer bullets that I bought on sale a while back. They are all over the map on paper. I can't tell you that they are not good just that my rifle doesn't like them.

My Vanguard does like the 150g Remington Core-Lokt which is also a spitzer and actually groups quite well. What the Winchester's do well is blow stuff up. Our little desert range does tend to get cluttered by jerks who think the desert is a good place to dump their garbage. Right now it's pumpkins and there were plenty. The Winchesters exploded them at 50-100 yards while the Core-Lokt's tended to be more through and through with what appeared to be a reasonable amount of expansion. It was a knitting needle hole going in and a quarter sized hole on the backside.

So, if you see a great deal on the Winchester Power Points and want to use them for hunting I'd suggest going out and shooting some soft organics with them just to get an idea of what they might do to your game. Notice I said "might", that's because I can't tell you for sure that these will act the same on game as they do on organics but it's been my experience that gords (squash) act a lot like game in the way they cause a bullet to expand.

My Howa 1500 didnít like them much either. It shoots the Federal SP blue box and Fusion in 150 grains really well. Of course it shoots 175 grain SMKís also really well. I have not shot any deer with the SMKís but have with the Federal SPís and hand loaded 150 grain SSTís.

Sierra has a new bullet out now. It's a tipped game king if l remember right

I shoot the SMK in my 6.5-284 bench rifle. It will penetrate 1/2" steel at 600 yards. Not really a big game bullet. But some use them

I reload for my .308's and each of them likes something a little different but for the most part they all do well with the Accubonds. I do have some TTSX and Barn Burners that I want to try. The main reason I was shooting up the Win stuff was to get the brass.

it's pretty safe to assume in this area, there is more game shot every year with Winchester super x power points ammo than anything else. 1)that what every little hardware, farm/oil supply store has in stock 2) they are a couple bucks cheaper at the big box stores. I don't use a lot of factory ammo, but I do buy it for the brass, when need be, and I have some rifles that like it and some other rifles that like federal blue box ammo better. Rarely, find Remington ammo here, and if you do, it's quite a bit more expensive. As for on game performance, I haven't had any problems with them.

They're both the same price where I live. My Vanguard 30.06 also prefers the Remingtons, but the difference is not that much.
Some like cologne, I like the smell of gunpowder.
