Alternative inlets for Mark V ultra lightweight

Alternative inlets for Mark V ultra lightweight
« on: January 14, 2019, 04:27:36 PM »
Hi, Im new, and have search forum and other places for info on alternative inlets/stocks that fit my Mark V Ultra lightweight action. I found one thred about this action, says that its just more narrow than the standard action and that its few other options in stocks. Can some with some Weatherby ultra lightweight knowlege give a summary on the difference on Mark V, Mark V Ultra lightweight and the Vanguard actions? I find it hard to read and understand all this out of their web site. Thanx :)

Bell and Carlson https://www.bellandcarlson.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=1066 makes a stock for your rifle. I would call them before ordering just to make sure. It's been my experience that the Ultra Lightweight rifles are often referred to as Light Weight and sometimes Lite Weight. In case you might be looking for scope bases that fit the radius of your action, you can call Talley to get the correct item. They are not listed on their website for some reason.

That is a nice looking Damascus blade knife in your avatar Norway. What is the handle made of?

An action with nine locking lugs is no different if it's a Deluxe MarkV,Synthetic,Accumark,or UltraLW.The actions are all the same size.If you have a standaed caliber like 270,30-06,223,or a 240 Weatherby mag you have a Lightweight with 6 locking lugs. These are a little difference in size (smaller)than the nine lug action.

Thanx for informative feedbacks so far! So my LW is just a standard Mark V for normal caliber with a fluted barrel and a light composite stock then... Interesting and a bit strange they say ita so few alternatives then.

Handle material is stabilized sour/rotten birch. Spacers of  Reindeer anthlet and the Norwegian/US flag in vulcanized fiber. This knife is made for a guy in Seattle :) Damascus is bought at brisa.fi and Are their brand AE Damascus. Finish from 1000 grid sanded + pholised 10 layers of super glue.

Going to try and explain this better.

There is a Mark V action that's been around for years.Nine lugs.

There is a Mark V action that is called a lightweight.Six lugs

You can get an UltraLite version of each.

Im starting to understand this, but still think its strange thats very few unoriginal stocks in the market... Some of the reason is probably that Weatherby stocks are very good as they are... But if its few providers of stocks for the slim 6 lug verson, there must be a market for it. Caus the pistol grip on my UL is not perfect at all for long range hunting high up the mountains. I tryed to talk Norway greatest stock manifacturer, GRS, into make inlets for Mark V.... In 2018 they introduced their BIFROST that would be perfect for mountain hunting if U stripp it down. https://www.grsriflestocks.com/rifle-stocks/grs-bifrost  They are comming to Shot Show, so please help talk them into a Weatherby option!

Interesting link for stocks Norway! I don't think there's a big market for replacement stocks for ULW Weatherby's and like everything else now a days it's driven by profit. +1 on the knife in your Avatar!

I have one laminated GRS for my Tikka in 300winmag. Its incredible nice to shoot! Specialy the pistol grip thats made 7 degree sideways dropout! My plan is to buy a blank BIFROST or a Howa 1500/Vanguard BIFROST if that can be remodelled, I'll start with that, and will stripp off unnecessary details to save weight! Hope to convince GRS to make CNC data for Mark V so it can be milled out. But there is another Norwegian stock, KKC http://www.kk.no The inventer, Ketil Kverndokk made the first series at the same factory as todays GRS, when they still made furnitures... Not sure if he make them for Mark V?
