I had a guy I worked with try to bust me about having and hunting with a Weatherby in front of a bunch of co-workers.  I just looked at him and said just remember there's a few kinds of people, there's people who have Weatherbys and those that wish they had Weatherbys, there's people who can shoot Weatherbys and there's that wish they could shoot Weatherbys and I'm the guy who has and can shoot Weatherybys and obviously you're the guy who wishes he had and could shoot Weatherbys.  Needless to say he just stood there like a deer in the head lights without a clue as to what to say and everyone else just started to laugh and that ended that conversation right there.  As the saying goes there's lots of bears out there to poke I'm the one you might not want to.
Nothing is better than a Weatherby, big bore magnum, or a Colt.

On another forum I got called out for saying I had a .257 Roy. I was told it was old school and dumb to call it that. I simply explained that this is how we distinguish between B's and wanna B's. I thought it was clever, maybe not, but it seems to have gotten my point across.

Next time you mention it do this and I bet the complaining stops  ;D ----> .257 ROY

I find there are a lot of complainers, and most of them just want to show out, like a bully. I've started using the ignore list on the four forums I'm still on. Makes my life a lot easier.

As for guys mocking Weatherby rifles, I've run into that enough to have a ready answer. When some blowhard starts in with the whole "too expensive, not accurate, etc. line of BS, I wait til they're done, and challenge them. $1000 to the guy who can take an off the shelf, spotter weight rifle, and outshoot my 270'bee. That rifle shoots well enough that I have a handful of pics of .25-.5MOA groups available to show them. So far, zero takers. Seems to shut them up pretty quickly.

Many years ago I asked the owner of a gun store in Garden City KS if he had many used 30 caliber magnums through his place as trade-in rifles. He was telling me about how various manufacturers were making better rifles than others and I had plenty of time so I listened to his speech, then asked him if he had many Weatherby’s through his store. He told me “you and your lawyer friends can shoot those.” I thanked him for his time and haven’t been back. I have no idea what his point was. I heard he sold his store a few years after I was there.

Is the 6.5-300 a "Adam"? Is the 300-378 a "Ed"? Is my 9mm a "Gaston"?  just kidding!

I suppose I'll start calling my model '94 Winchester 30-30 my model '94 John, after John Browning.

I’ve found this a very interesting topic. Just to add, I’ve had a .257 Roberts for about 18-20 years now and have been calling it a .257bob for as long as I can remember. And I don’t ever recall hearing someone refer to a .257WBY as a .257Roy and ever thinking odd of it it or not understanding what they were talking about.

Again, calling you out for using the term 257 Roy is more their cynical way of showing a great dislike for those that they feel are somehow "privileged" and are "showing off" by trying to draw out the question, "Whats a 257 Roy?" They would rather you called it a 257 Weatherby or better yet, not have you in the conversation at all. Their manner of criticizing can come in any disguised mixture a wise-ass can come up with. But, the term 257 Roy will always be used by Weatherby Aficionado's as a form of endearment for the passion Roy Weatherby had for his rifles. Besides being Wanna B's, chances are, they "Want" a Bee.

It's unfortunate some folks just can't be civil on internet forums. I wouldn't even concern myself with him. Call your 257 whatever you like. Folks who own Weatherbys will know exactly what you mean with no explanation required.

I believe those "keyboard ninjas" are probably still leaving in the baseman under their parents support.  Those are the same ones who cast profanity & threats to the female hunters who post pictures of their trophies.  I can't stand those cowards.
