Getting tired of winter

Getting tired of winter
« on: February 19, 2019, 08:39:36 AM »

12 degrees this morning and yet another storm coming in tomorrow and again this weekend. The one that is coming is a polar storm and will slide right down the middle of Nevada with lake effect snow from Pyramid Lake to add even more snow. The washouts in the desert where I like to shoot are full of Nevada cement (The soil has all the ingredients, just add water). With temps so low, the car washes are shut down and obviously, I can't use my power washer. If you don't get the muck off your vehicles when it's wet, you almost need an air chisel to remove it.

I want to go shoot and take some hay out to the wild horses but that's just going to have to wait I guess. Maybe I can talk my neighbor into taking hay out but I doubt it, he'll figure out why I'm not doing it, he's a smart guy. They've been without a heating system for 4 day's now and have been heating with electric heaters and his gas fireplace. I offered them my home but they're stubborn and are sticking it out. It's supposed to get fixed today. I sent them a text a half hour ago and no answer so I better go check on them.

No mosquitos or ticks out even though it was a balmy 3 below this morning, I Love winter!!! Needed to add a 20" extension to the ice auger today, otherwise no complaints here in Minnesota. Sounds like your getting abnormal weather HDH? The warmer winters are part of the reason for the moose decline here, I hope the polar vortex hangs around for a while here. It will kill off a lot of the invasive insect larvae killing the trees too.

On February 8th we were -51F  we now have more snow on the level then I think I have seen in a long time/ It is so soft my son's big Arctic Cat Mountain cat has the skis running on the ground shoveling snow over the hood. WE coaxed cows out of the Badlands the last 2 days with my Bombi pulling a toboggan with alfalfa pellets and a couple snow machines checking for more cows and bring up the rear. Got most of them coming home.

When the wind picks up we will have a mess :o

Up to 34 degrees right now. Gorgeous blue bird skies as far as the eye can see. Yes, it's the lull before the storm but I'll take it. Neighbors did fine and the furnace repair guy is supposed to be tracking down parts and will be out later to get their heater back up. I went and got 4 bales of hay from the hay barn and took them out for the horses. They saw me coming and were standing there waiting. I'm not worried about the ones that were raised wild, it's the ones that are recent turnouts that don't get it yet. I understand it when people get into a situation and can't afford to keep a horse. At first I didn't get it but I'm ok with them turning them out as a last resort now. They do survive and probably live a better life for it. Car wash doors open at 33 degrees so I'm off to get the mud off the truck.

Take some Picts of the horses and terrain next time you hay them and post for us. I had no idea people were releasing them out to be wild.

We can all be grateful that Democrats have not yet banned fossil fuels, the only thing keeping millions of Americans from freezing to death! What rich irony Democrats are facing this winter: Death by "global warming" or death by freezing!

As soon as we ban fossil fuels because of global warming, we can all go back to burning wood like everyone did before fossil fuels, but now the world's population is over 7X greater, so we can all worry about global warming because there are not enough trees!! Or, I suppose we could just tell everyone who lives in a place where nuclear energy is not an option that they are all SOL. :o :o

Post some pictures, I knew people dumped their pets out in the country. But it's surprising they'd do the same with horses!!!

Please send that cold weather Down Under!! I am sick of the heat here. Can't get out for a shot because it is to hot for me. It is going to be 35C, 95F here today. And I live in one of the cooler areas of Australia.
Also if you have any spare rain PLEASE send it down! My state of NSW and other areas of Aus are in the grips of a severe drought. Farmers are struggling big time.... Yet in the north part of the state of QLD they are having major flooding that has destroyed hundreds of millions worth of property and livestock...

If I could I would my friend. Our snow pack in the Truckee Meadows is 167% of normal. It could be a rough spring when it all starts to melt.

Starting to cloud back up again as the next storm begins to move in. Temps dropped back to 27 while I was at the car wash. As soon as I drove out the rollup doors shut. My timing was incredibly lucky. At least I got out in the fresh air for a little while! I wonder if I have enough parts to build another rifle or maybe I can spend the next couple of day's loading up 6.5 C ammo for the Bergarra. I have enough .308 to last me for a few years, .223 if stocked up and so is 5.56. Weatherby's all have a good supply. I did those during the last storm.
This dang weather needs to clear up, I'm just about out of things to do around here.

I don't get why you wouldn't sell a horse if you couldn't afford it
