Installing Trigger Spring- Weatherby Vanguard [Series 1]

Installing Trigger Spring- Weatherby Vanguard [Series 1]

1st post here, so hope it is posted under the right category.   I recently bought a used Vanguard [older series 1] with the single-stage trigger.  I decided the heavy pull weight was unacceptable,  so I found a replacement trigger spring by a company called Gunbloke.  Do any of you have experience with their springs?  I am having some difficulty with what looks to be a simple installation.   I've had no response from the company regarding my questions, so thought maybe you could give me some guidance.

I just received my new Gunbloke trigger spring and attempted to install it in my Vanguard.  I followed the instructions for replacing the spring.  After removing the trigger adjustment screw and lock nut assembly, the instructions say to remove the trigger spring  and replace with the new Gunbloke supplied trigger spring.

I did not see a factory trigger spring after removing the trigger adjustment screw.  Is the factory trigger spring supposed to just fall out of the trigger housing after removing the adjustment screw?  Or is it installed deeper in the housing where I can't see it?  I tried to install the Gunbloke spring and it didn't seem to want to drop all the way in, requiring a lot of pressure to compress it enough to screw in the trigger adjustment screw (as if the factory trigger spring was still in there).

I thought I saw a factory trigger spring deep inside the housing (using a flashlight), just past the threads for the adjustment screw.  I reached in with a pick to see if I could remove it, but was unable to.  I am concerned that I will damage the factory trigger spring and not be able to install my Gunbloke spring.  Any thoughts on how to proceed?  I expected the factory spring to drop out and the Gunbloke to drop in.  Thanks.

First, remove all ammunition from the area. Check to see that there is NO LIVE ROUND IN CHAMBER. Put the trigger back together, re-install it in the rifle, replace the bolt, take the safety off, pull the trigger and hold it to the rear then remove the adjuster and the original spring should come with it. If that does not work then replace the trigger with a Timney and be done with it.

That didn't work.  Is the factory spring just supposed to fall out, or is it "seated" in there, requiring me to physically remove it?  I know the Series 1 trigger adjustment is not as user-friendly as the Series 2.  I replaced the trigger springs on 4 Tikkas and the factory spring came out easily with drop-in replacement after removing the screw.  As I recall with my X-Bolt, I had to pry out the old spring (destroying it), before dropping in the replacement.

As great as it sounds, I do not want to put a Timney in this rifle, which is why I chose the trigger spring.

If you have to destroy it to remove it, that would be an option I would not consider. I would need to have the trigger assembly in hand to provide any further assistance. If you decide to disassemble the trigger be gentle and make sure you do not bend the side plates.

The spring is compressed and stuck in the housing, it's not going to drop out. You'll need to take a very small pick or paper clip to get it out. This happens to many other brands of triggers not just weatherby/howa.

That is what I needed to know, since I could barely see it.  I guess i need to be a bit more persistent, as I already tried a metal pick and a paperclip. Thank you.

Were you able to get the old spring out and the new spring installed? If so was the new spring a big improvement?

Ghostman,
Unfortunately,  I decided to sell the rifle and didn't want to mess with it.  After trying unsuccessfully to remove the factory spring, I found instructions for an "Ernie the Gunsmith" trigger spring.  It was something like a dozen steps and required trigger disassembly...a bridge I prefer not to cross.  I emailed the company twice for assistance and got no response.   Therefore I am led to believe that my Gunbloke trigger spring is not an easy drop-in installation, and their instructions are poorly written, if not totally lacking.

That's too bad. I also don't like having to take apart a trigger to lighten the weight or remove creep. All of my triggers in my Weatherby and Remington rifles have been changed out to Timney's.

Sorry to hear you couldn't make it work for you. I had a feeling it was going to go in the direction of disassembly which is why I told you to be careful not to bend the plates just incase you decided to venture down that path. Too bad you got rid of it, a Timney would have fixed her right up.

Rifles come and go for me...This particular rifle just wasn't a "Keeper" for me.  Otherwise I would have gone the Timney route.

Understood, it either feels right or it isn't a rifle you'll have confidence in no matter how you pay or how well it's rated.
