Any pistol hunters out there?

I would love to get the S&W 460 since I could shoot 460, 454 C, 45 LC or any 45 rimmed case pistol round. At the same time I'm think what a great quad gun it would make but then I look in my safe and realize that my Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 mag can be scoped and easily do the job of a hunting pistol. It's a small investment to put a scope on it instead of the 1600.00 it would cost for a new gun. Don't get me wrong, I still want it, I'm just trying to stay on my diet.

My 44 is great on whitetail. I have moved and now carry it sometimes Antelope hunting. That 100 yard shot hasn't happened yet but when it does the pistol and load will be ready

Roger, That Raging Bull is a good looking pistol in SS, and by the blood on that deers neck I'd say darn accurate. My hunting pistols are Thompson Contenders. Top is a 223 with a 14" stainless steel frame and bull barrel with a Burris nickel finish 2x7x32mm scope.(I liked the contrast of the blue rings and base on the nickel scope) Bottom is a 44 magnum with 10" Blue finish frame and barrel, with a custom muzzle Tamer and a Burris gloss black finish 2x7x32mm scope. I've taken deer and a fox with the 223, and hogs with the 44 mag. I've posted the pictures once before.

Great shot on that deer Roger, and good looking rig.

Roger, I hunt with a S&W 29, and a Ruger Super Red Hawk.  I've hunted with both, killed one deer & several hogs, all shot with open sights.  I don't think I can do that anymore, my eyes are not getting any better.  I think I will end up topping at least one with a scope.   The Mod 29 is one of those with the pinned barrel, and I wouldn't like to mess up what ever little value it may have.   ;D

HDH, you'll have to forgive, but that S&W is Buffalo Ugly!   ;D ;D ;D

I have a TC Encore in 308 Winchester that I shot a black bear with, I've carried it whitetail and elk hunting with no luck. I have an older Leupold 1x20 scope, but I definitely should have went with a higher powered variable scope for deer and elk. But at the time a 1 power was all I needed hunting over bait for bear, I load 150 ballistic tips over IMR 4064. She definitely has some bark to her!!!

I had one of these at one time. I also had a .243 and .460 S&W barrel. The .460 S&W had a pretty good bark. Made the .308 and .243 was very accurate.

S&W Model 629 Classic 5 inch barrel 44 Magnum. I killed a wild boar with it back in the early 1990's soon after that version was introduced.  Still have it and the pig on the wall! Had a Ruger Redhawk  44 Magnum 7 1/2 inch that I killed a whitetail buck with back in the late 1980's.  Antlers are still on the wall, the revolver is gone.  I currently use a S&W model 617 4 inch .22 for some small game.

I think it would be pretty cool if Weatherby got into the bolt action pistol game, like the Remington XP-100 or the Savage Striker. I see Nosler made on based on their M48 action, I think that a 14" barreled Vanguard would be a fun hunting rig

Well, it happened. I went into town for lunch with my neighbors at our favorite New York Pizza restaurant which just happens to be next door to Scheel's who just happened to have an 460 XVR 8.38" barrel. I walked past it three times and said no..no… and then yes. They did not have any 460 S&W ammo but I got a couple of boxes of the Hornady 454 Casul and a couple of boxes of 45 Colt. My neighbor's wife got the Springfield XD-S 9mm that they had on a in store special with 5 mags and range bag for 429.00. Pretty good deal and I almost bought one but my hands are too big for it.

I'm on the search for the scope mounts and scope for the XVR now. The trigger is typical S&W and breaks like glass. It is super easy to hold on target despite it's hefty 4.73 lbs weight.

Man you guys over there shit me! Teasing me with all the fun things you are allowed to have and do.
We are not allowed to take ANY pistols hunting down here. Yet a US citizen can fly over with their pistol and go hunting in the Northern Territory with it.
Alas I don't want to change the direction of this thread, so talking about the .460 S&W, I have a lovely Ruger No1 chambered in it. And boy does it get the best out of that case! I can't use the factory 225gr flex tip Hornady ammo as it just blows up on impact without penetrating enough. I use reloads consisting of Hodgen Lil'Gun and the 275gr Barnes XPB. It is zimming along at 2550 FPS. I can squeeze a bit more out of it but then it loses it's one hole 3 shot group at 100m.
The 200gr XPB will do 3000 fps and the 325gr Barnes Buster is right at 2400fps.
However this rifle has a long throat so I can get quite a bit more powder in there. I sure wouldn't be trying to fire my loads out of a handgun lol
