Excellent point. At this exact moment the .22-250 would still be on my list but after that, it would be .240WBY, and .308win... then fall will roll around and it will change up again!

Top 3? #1 is easy. #2 and 3 get a little tougher. But here's my list of favorite cartridges. Now, favorite rifle/cartridge combo is a different animal.

1. 270Wby - no surprise here, huh? Does everything you need, and does it with style.

2. 340Wby - I don't own one, but have shot a friend's rifle. It's a heavy hitter but it's not punishing. Nothing on the North American continent is too big for this one, in just about any conceivable situation, terrain, or setup. It's on my get list, for sure.

3. 30-06 - for sheer utility, it's tough to beat. Like a Jr. version of #1 above. Does all the same stuff, though nowhere close to as flat or fast, and without all the style. Close second to this one is my 8x57, for all the same reasons.

Wow. Stupid phone keyboard is too small for my hands. Surprised to see the forum software let that through. I've edited it, and my apologies for the inadvertent and unintended vulgarity. At least you found humor in it.
