I used Federal Prairie Storm #4 Steel the last time I Pheasant hunted.

At the start of the pheasant season I use my Handicap Trap loads of 1 1/8 ounces of #7 1/2 lead.  In the last half of the season I use 1 1/4 ounces of #5 lead, all from a modified choked 12 gauge.

I've never pheasant hunted in South Dakota, do they allow lead on public land?

SD does not allow lead on public land, but it is still legal on private land and along roadways.

Are you hunting wild or tame birds?  Makes a big difference on what to use.

The last time I hunted Pheasants I used my 1959 vintage Winchester Model 12.  It is modified with a 28" barrel.  For ammo I used Winchester Super X high brass 1 1/4 oz. of # 6 shot.

I bought a box of Federal Prairie Storm #6 but never used them.  The Super X work fine.
