257 for bear

Has anyone here used their 257 mag for black bear and if so , how did it work ? Looking to get a 257 and want to use it for bear here in PA.

I've shot 3 black bears here in MN., the biggest 350 lbs. but not with my 257. A 257 with ttsx, partitions or another premium bullet will work great for black bears, my buddy shot a couple with his 270 Win with no problem. I actually think bears are easier to kill than whitetails as long as you don't try to drive the bullet thru their heavier bones, the only difference is the bear may attack you if you just wound it so wait for a good shot.

Not sure if you've been keeping up with the Campfire threads, but you might check out the "Bear hunting with a Creedmoor" thread. Granted, the CM is no 257 Wby, but the thread is worth looking at.

I shot a 200ish lb black bear a few years back with my 257Wby pushing 100gr Sciroccos @ 3600fps.  Very dead bear and bullet is probably still going
