I had a lot of windshield time today across western Kansas and came to the conclusion that a 7mm Weatherby would be a equally fine place to start with a Weatherby. I have a 7mm Wby. It is one of the most accurate and easy shooting rifle I have, thanks to a Timney trigger and a muzzle break. Mine happens to like all the handloads I’ve worked up for it, so how can I say some bad about that?
Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.

Every man needs to know his limits.

just get a 270 Wby, and you will never look back  8)  Seriously, either the 270 Wby or 7mm Wby, are great choices, and have moderate recoil, and are easy to shoot. The 6.5 RPM is worth considering also.

257 and 300 wby are the classic cartridges!

If you want to avoid recoil, I would get the .257 Wby!

good luck. keep us posted.

Because you are not mentioning hunting anything and you want a beautiful wood stock I would agree with Husky Muskie on the .257 Wby Magnum and get it a deluxe stock. I have a ,416 with a deluxe stock and will never take it to the field because I do not want even a small scratch on it. I own 18 Mk Vs.
