300 Weatherby fastest 180 Grain loads

300 Weatherby fastest 180 Grain loads

Hello Weatherby Nation,

I'm new to the channel. I purchased my first Weatherby rifle in 300 Weatherby (Vanguard Synthetic) back in March. Went Elk hunting(didn't even see an elk) and hand loaded a 180 grain barnes bullet. I loaded 4 loads and was able to get a 1 inch group at 100 yards with my slowest load which was 80 grains of H 4831. My bullet was going 3050 FPS out the muzzle. I plan to try some different powders and bullets this winter to get an accurate hotter load.

My question is what has been the fastest and accurate loads you've gotten with any of the 180 grain bullets?

With 180 partitions i use imr 7828 ,86.0 grains and am getting 3250fps average  and 3/4" @ 100yds. I really like the 200 gr accu bonds tho. Getting 5/8" with imr 8133. Spliting hairs i guess

That's a quick load for 180 grain. What kind of FPS are you getting with your 200 grain?

200gr accu bond with the 8133 2950fps
With 7828 I'm getting 3045fps , but the 8133 is more accurate

<------  :D 5 @ 100yds
178 eldx, 81gr h4831, Hornady brass, Tul LRM primer....3050
Have gone up to 83 gr and picked up maybe 100 fps and larger groups....IMO not worth it.
S1 Vanguard, piller bedded, trigger job / floated barrel .....ect

That's a nice group there. My next project for my gun(other than reloading) will be getting the barrel bedded. My faster loads would group well until the 3rd shot.

to get the 180 gr barnes over 3200 fps safely, with a 24 inch barrel, RL25 or RL26(personally I haven't tried RL26 yet, but I know a few very experienced reloaders, that has, and say they can get over 3200 with the 180) H1000 and 7828ssc will work well with that bullet, but, you likely going to get around 3150-3200 fps max safely, which is still more than enough energy for hunt anything you will be hunting with a 300. If you need more, then you need a 375.

RL-26 loads in my 300 Wby have averaged a muzzle velocity of 3224. That load made less then a 1Ē group and most importantly, the first shot was where I needed it. I didnít push it to see how far I could go increasing the load before issues showed up.
Loads with H-1000 and IMR 7977 have shown nearly identical results. H-4831 is the slowest of my tested powders but just as accurate.
The Weatherby factory ammo (180 grain) with plain old Hornady Interlocks has been consistent also.

Eric, what does the factory load do in fps?
Remember 10534
