A hunter here today recovered his 50 cal slug Barnes all copper from a mule deer.
It sure petaled out nice.

That's great performance, especially considering that muzzle loader velocities are much lower than most modern rifle loads.
Come and take it.

Barnes make very good muzzleloader bullets. They make them for Thor bullets also. The Thor doesn't use a  sabot so they are legal in Colorado. Attached a couple recovered Thor bullets. One is from a mule deer the other is from a elk

Great info on those bullets for sure.  I started out using the ole Buffalo bore lubed bullets years ago when I was shooting the T/C .50 Cal. Hawken. Never got to shoot a deer with that combination.

Years later when I was able to move up to the Inline T/C Black Diamond .50 Cal. I was using the Hornady 240 XTP bullets and Sabots.  I killed lots of whitetail deer with that combination, including one evening the deer just kept coming in on me, I took 3 deer in less than 20 minutes with that rifle and bullet combination. 2 doe deer and 1 six point I don't think I will ever top that again.

A few years later I switched to 295 grain hollow point powerbelts.  I have taken many deer with those, including the biggest racked buck that I have ever taken.  I must add out of all the years of muzzleloading with the above mentioned bullets, I have never lost a deer.

I have thought about the Barnes Bullets, but never have tried those.
