Hammer bullets

Hammer bullets are a relative newcomer to the premium bullet market but these all-copper bullets are worth your time. Caliber choices go from .172 to .458 for hunting bullets, including some for lever action loads, and target bullets are available.

They appear to be a Barnes clone but that is not the case. Instead of wide bands on the shank, the surface is wave-like to help hold down pressures and copper fouling. The front part is designed to break off the shank (after some penetration) and become smaller tissue-busting pieces as the shank drives through.

A buddy used a 236 grain Hammer to take a big Colorado bull elk with a 33-378 Weatherby Magnum. It wa slither a 230 or  330 yard shot, then it went down. The 166grain Hammer Hunter is the most accurate bullet I have loaded for my 308 Win (for a Bergera B-14 Ridge). Now if I can find more Varget I will load up a bunch and be set.

JM, what brand is your 375H&H?  I was checking these out, and would like to get some for my 375, which is a CZ-550.  Thanks!!!!  What powder did you use?

Para, I have a Mark V Safari Classic (AAA French walnut straight stock with minimal drop at the heel, Pachmyer decelerator pad, quarter rib express sights with one standing and one folding leaf. Hooded front sight, barrel band front swivel, steel grip cap, two panel hand checkered bolt knob, the Weatherby that doesn't look like a Weatherby. Only 140 in 375 H&H were made in 1992.
Anyway, I use Fed 215 GM primers, RWS cases, 74 gr of ReLoder 17 behind the 299 gr Shock Hammers bullet. I'm getting 2670 fps. Hammers have a bit less bore resistance and get 75-100 more fps per charge. Hope this helps, JM

Nice! The stock looks very similar to my Classic Mark in 300WBY.

Grouchy, I'm sure it's very similar, yours has a cheek piece, mine is without. I've seen other Safari Classics, one with a shadow line cheek piece and Weatherby style inlay under the forearm, probably extra cost add ons. The Safari Classics were chambered for 375 H&H not sure if any were made in 375 Weatherby. All had #3 contour barrels. You have a fine gun there. JM

No Monte Carlo on that stock, it's straight with a slight cheek piece and oil finished! They only made them for 2 years in the early 90's
