Weatherby TTSX vs Barnes TTSX

Weatherby TTSX vs Barnes TTSX
« on: April 29, 2021, 05:10:34 PM »
Hi All,

I've been scratching my head over this. What is the difference between the Weatherby loads and the original owner/manufacture loads? In my case, what is the difference between the Weatherby Premium Select 300 Wby TTSX 180gr and Barne's 300 wby TTSX 180gr?

Thanks!

Well the projectiles are exactly the same but the powders may be different. Hence there may be a difference in velocity. Your rifle may like one better than the other or it may shoot em both the same.

barnes ammo is made in the remingtion ammo factory, and is loaded on the mild side, compared to Weatherby ammo.

So, does Weatherby get these projectectiles, tips, casings, etc from Barnes and then make their modifications to them or are these two completely independent bullets and weatherby just happens to call them TTSX? So If I am shooting Weatherby TTSX, I am wrong saying that I shoot Barnes TTSX?

The bullets are the exact same, but the Barnes ammo would be manufactured by Remington in Remington brass,Remington primer, and Remington's powder blend. The same with the Weatherby ammo. The bullet would be the only common component that the 2 ammos would have in common.

you can't get much clearer then what 224 king posted.

For example the Weatherby ammo your talking about, the bullet will be barnes, the cases are norma, the primer are federal 215's and the powder will be a blend from one of the powder manufacture's.

The main point is the bullets is the same in the ammo you listed, so use the one your rifle shoots the best, or the one you can find right now.  ::)

Thanks everyone. Makes more sense. I was under the impression that it is the same bullet and Weatherby just makes some alterations to it to better fit their Weatherby guns.

As for what shoots best, people are telling me to use Weatherby's "version" over the original. So, that's what I've been shooting.

What kind of accuracy are you getting?
