Thanks Guy's hopefully they will be fun hunts. The north Kaibab 12AW, 12AE on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon just north of the National Park we have hunted quite a bit either for Deer, Turkey, and Kaibab Squirrels (only place in the world that has them, subspecies of Abert squirrels, Black, Dark Brown, with White tails) , there are other animal species including Mtn Lion, a few Buffalo that wander around and into the park, it's known for big Muleys. When people think Kaibab it's usually in reference to the Kaibab Plateau on the North rim of the Grand canyon. Unit 9 is still Kaibab National forest, but located on the border of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon national park and is known for older big Bull Elk, we haven't hunted it , been thru it, my son has been in there hiking with friends 50 miles in 3 days according to gps scouting and looking at things, not an easy hunt by any means, tight in vegetation in places and fairly flat. Need to find water and this late hunt could be snow, it's one of those hunts that could be great or it could be a bust we just won't know until it's over. There was a bigger fire in Kaibab North last year I don't know how bad it's burned and if vegetation has started growing back in any abundance, these burns can be a good thing and a bad thing they open things up to where you can see the animals much easier which makes for a higher success rate, but thins out the older big animals in that area. I guess almost 4 years ago my wife and I both drew 12B West Deer tags early and late rut seasons , I screwed up on my early hunt not getting a shot at a pretty big and wide Muley , but my wife took a real nice and tall Muley a few weeks later on her Rut hunt same unit nice pretty deer. 12B in general is just to the North of North Kaibab so we know the area fairly well. There is more to this story and until we get our deer tags in I won't know for sure.
