My son has been trying to kill this buck with a bow for 5 weeks. The 240mag did him in this afternoon late.I was checking cows and riding around.200 yard free handed out the window of the truck.Soon as I saw him I switched the ignition off and while truck coasted to a stop I was getting the 240 out of the passenger seat.I knew I wouldn't have much time to shoot.Couldn't lock my elbow into the steering wheel and use the mirror for rests, because I was having to shoot too far back to the left out the window. At 200 yards my rifle shoots about 3 inches high and I hit him high mid shoulder and came out below spine just at the rear of the lungs.A great deer for my part of Texas. We have good genetics, but no one allows deer to get very old around here. This deer grew about 10 inches from last year and we guessed he was 135 inches then.He is definitely heavier horned than he looks in the pics.

Donnie, Thanks for resizing the pics and posting them for me.

Sometimes we’re in the right spot when a good buck pops up and that’s the case again. Nice buck.

Not very well at first, but he said later that he was glad that one of us got him instead of the guys hunting around us.He has put some time into the place and I have put lots of time and money into it to make it what it is today. We don't have a ton of deer in this country. This is only the second deer that's been taken off the place in ten years.Bought it on Jan 31st of 2011.It had been shot up pretty good.My guess was that it only had about 7 or 8 deer living on the place all the time. There's about 3-1/2 times that now and thru our management it's really helped the population around us as well. The place is just shy of 650 acres,I lease another 185 touching it,and there is 200 to the South of me that doesn't get hunted.A friend of my Dad's had owned the place when I was a young teen and I had hunted on it then back in the late 70's.It's a totally different place from what it was then.It was 85% farmland then and it was enrolled into CRP (Conservation Reserve Program) in 1979 or 1980.There is a lot of the hybrid grasses still there from the CRP,but the mesquites and cactus have taken over. Two prominent creeks come together on it and it has some really good creek bottom land. It's not a big Texas size place,or anything like BMR's spread, but I love the hell out of it.It's paid for too.
