The B'day was Saturday.  No Weatherby gift received.  A watch and tickets to Miami's stadium-of-many-names to watch AC Milan v Chelsea FC along with more than 57,000 other Serie A / EPL fans, including some from Atlanta, KC and CANADA... :o....  Good time, but a 6PM start time made for a "warm" 1st half.

Guns International has a Wby Mk V  Deluxe in 7mm-08 for sale for around $1,300.  Sent an EMail of it to the family.  No reply.  Got the tickets instead.... :D

Fair enough, but, now that I'm officially an old fart I'm going to get a lot more pushy about a Weatherby.  I've wanted a MK V Deluxe since 1970 or so.  One way or another I'll get one.  If I can convince my son that it will be his eventually, maybe I can get a cohort in crime to my cause.... ;)  We'll see.

Gifts given were far less expensive than the object desired, even if it was $1K less than new.  Not in a position for that purchase right now.  It's time will come.  Probably in a different caliber than that one, unfortunately.  Unless I get a 7mm-08 in an S2.  That is a possibility.

It is understood it will be willed to the eldest.  He's the only one that would have any interest in that type of thing.

As for funny football; we are the people that have one form of funny "football".  The Aussies have the oddest form of the sport yet invented.  What I saw is the oldest form and the purest football, but ours is considered a bit of an oddity, too.  The only thing funny about the one I saw was the number of people that went to see an exhibition game.  Damn near as many as go to an NFL pre-season game.  Besides, my son's played that original form since he was 5.  It was a very appropriate gift from him and much appreciated.  We got some time alone together.  Something a father of 3 small people, his oldest is 4 & his youngest will be 1 on the 31st with a 2 year old between them, really doesn't have much to give me right now.  That made the whole event special... ;D

Although the difference between a deluxe and ultramark is only in the grade of the wood, I have had several Mrk deluxe rifles that clearly had a lesser grade wood but I presently own a 340 Mrk V deluxe with wood that appears to be equal to my 300 ultramark.  If there is a difference, it is not obvious to me.  Obviously, there is a fine line in the grade of the wood is some instances.

My understanding is that weatherby produces a limited number of ultramarks each year in 257 and 300 as part of their normal production due to demand and those are available through retailers or distributors, but if you want a different caliber, you have to make a special order through the custom shop.  I have noticed that Sports South has had ultramarks in 257 and 300 in stock in the past, so any dealer who purchases through Sports South could call up and purchase an ultramark that was produced by weatherby as part of its normal production runs.  I would assume that one would otherwise be required to make a special order through the custom shop.

You can also purchase certain DGRs even with desert camo and teflon coating in the same manner even though they are clearly listed as custom rifles through  the custom shop.  Apparently weatherby produces a limited number of these rifles each year which are distributed through authorized distributors.  I noted tonight that Sports South has 5 DGRs in stock including a 375 H&H, 416 REM, 458 Win, 458 Lott, and 460 wby.  The price of one of these special production rifles is likely less than a special order through the custom shop.

I know that I was able to purchase a 416 DGR in desert camo with teflon through my local dealer who called his distributor looking a deluxe model.   I immediately jumped on it because it was in stock and shipped and delivered in 3 days at a price much less then the same rifle ordered through the custom shop.

Just my experience.

GampaDavie, the "Royal Ultramark" is more then an upgrade in the wood and much more than an extra 1K in fees.

The RU stock is $1,575 through the custom shop.  Believe me, I've played with the build your own feature to make the "stock" .270 Ultramark more than a few times.  I've even added a few other things, like the RU stock, a time or 2 to see how much Weatherby would charge for them.  I think that I've listed the prices on this thread, too.  The standard Ultramark in .270 goes for about $3,700.  With the RU stock it's about $4,100.  The prices make them a pipe dream, but fun to think about... ;)

That's why the Deluxe 7mm-08 for $1,300 is so appealing.  Rare rifle at a bargain price.  And still unaffordable.... :'(...That's life.  Maybe an S2 would be a nice addition someday.  I'll still dream about the RU, though.. ;D

Pleas understand that my posts here are an old man babbling about what will probably never be.  Maybe...;)

Well, I realize that the ultramark list for 3700 more or less, but I assure you that I did not pay near that amount for mine and it was purchased new.  The price has increased over the years but I have never paid the list price for any weatherby...

I have always received a price close to the prices listed on buds from a local dealer.  I may be able to order from buds for a few dollars less but it was not sufficient enough to me to justify dealing and buying online.
