My daughter had a either sex moose tag for Zone 1 which our ranch is in. In the early season we were fairly busy and the time she got out but only saw a small bull and a cow. The late season started November 1. She had been out a couple times but kept running into the same cow calf and small bull. Today I went out with her, right off we saw a cow but nothing else with it. We went on up a coulee, saw a Mule deer buck and commented on the crab claw forks but must have missed seeing the two bulls in the trees a little farther up. We looked over the hill at a wallow but saw nothing. We turned around to proceed up the coulee and Britt saw the moose. We thought one was a cow as we couldn't see it's head very well and the one in some fairly heavy cover was facing us and we could see horns. We were on the north side of the coulee and they started out to the south. Britt grunted and they stopped and Britt shot. They started off again and she grunted again. They stopped and just as she was going to shoot again he wobbled and dropped. She was shooting her Weatherby Vanguard GH2 (Girls Hunt 2) .243 basically a youth version with the spacer taken out.100 grain super X. Was a bit confusing how it killed him. Went through the shoulder and into the boiler room except to hole didn't seem to go right through, Wondering if it didn't deflect off a rib? Sure bled out inside.
