A Stroll Down Memory lane?
« on: December 29, 2022, 03:42:21 PM »
The following is an old thread from 2007 and goes to 2012. I'm sure many of the Hero members, and many others have also read it before. (30,977 views) Some facts and some unfounded, a ballsy shooting claim, some rebuttal, and a proposed solution. Read the whole thread as it is pretty entertaining and informative. Many of us remember some of the players, but questions remain:

   1. Was Long Range for real?
   2. Did anyone ever meet him face to face?
   3. Does anyone know if a shooting match with Long Range ever took place?
         ;D ;D ;D

Single poster started that thread! 4000 fps? 4" at 1200?  No wonder he is no longer with us! Interesting post, Danno!   ;D

I wonder what happened to Oregon Jim , Dubyan,  and Mikey from Oregon he  hasn't been on here for years.   There was another guy a NAS Car builder who moved to Washington State forgot his name haven't heard from him in years also.   Hope they are ok.   As for shooting these types of groups at anything past 1000 yds I got to see it to believe it let alone 2000 + Yds.    The 30-378 was kind of the in thing when came out and started getting some traction.  It's a very good long range caliber and several aquaintances  I know use it here in AZ for long range cross canyon Coues deer and Elk.  Plinking targets at 1000 yds + ranges is one thing, and actually taking big game at these longer ranges is a whole different ball game.  One thing without getting into the quick load programs and tinker with what if's  it would not surprise me for someone to push a really light off the shelf bullets , with the right powder, in excess of 4000 fps + in a 30-378 in a 30 " barrel, but then you start  increasing bullet drops  at these extended ranges when using lighter bullets.

I remember Dubyan saying he was going to be spending time on the Weatherby Collectors site.

Well, our website has been reorganized at least 2 or 3 times over the last decade or so that I guess the people involved in this thread have just moved on. (in whatever form they may have moved on🙏)

I was active on this site back in 2008-2012 and remember a member that went by bighorn, I think. I belive he was a gunsmith in Wyoming he was the one that would show his builds "on the stump". Do any of you old timers remember him.
I could be off track, but I think it was this site.
