You know what, I feel I may owe Weatherby an apology. I actually like the look of the new Range model of the 307. I was looking at it last night and it actually appealed to me. I am wanting a new synthetic rifle in either .257 or .300 wby mag. This model doesn't say it comes in .300 Wby but it does in .300 win mag... Anyways I feel I may get one in the future. I just need to get my .338-378 and a wood stocked .378 out of the way first.

Would have liked to have seen it offered in the 7mm Weatherby mag but I guess that is not in the cards.

We may not be giving Adam and his crew enough credit for keeping Weatherby a viable business. I'm sure he has all kinds of statistical data showing the buying power, types of rifles purchased. Keeping a business solvent in today's business climate means moving quickly to have a product ready when the public decides it needs that particular product.

I doubt I'll see the end of the deluxe, beautiful walnut and highly polished blue steel, I just wish we had more of them.

I'm not critical of the direction of the company, l just don't like the business climate that makes these decisions necessary.

I also noticed the 300 Wby isnít available in the 307 Range model, and I think it is because the riflemen looking for a piece like the 307 do not want it chambered for a 300 Wby. In my opinion the 307 is purpose built for the hunter looking for specific qualities and customization choices. Wood stocked rifle arenít their thing and thatís fine. There are a myriad of perfectly good hunting cartridges and platforms to launch bullets from those cartridges. We can all be happy with what is available.

Interesting point, certainly made to be a long range rifle and it sure appears that the "market" has an opinion of what is a long range caliber?

Although i'm sure most would not agree on what distance is actually considered long range. :)

I've had this debate within my house about 300 and even 340's about well i'd never shoot that beyond 2-300? I'm like um why? Well it's just not made to do that, my response is have you read anything on it or just read about PRC because that's what was made in your generation? ;) Let's go to the range boys!

So there's definitely a perception and it also appears that new product launches are as important. I read on other forums about "new build". The money people have invested in a single rifle these days is staggering, and then when something new comes out - guess what? They wanna move it for a "new build"! lol

It does seem like the old cartridge's do not get much love, but that could also be that a significant emphasis is placed on cost. But 300 is about as common as it gets. Anyway allot if interesting variables, i am curious to know from the weatherby folks how they selected caliber options and do they plan on expanding that as they usually do. Some of that had to be tooling and availability? I'm rambling at this point, intriguing discussion - be cool to plug into the manufacturing mind on how and why's,

Great idea and a very functional looking long range rifle built for the long haul with PRC cartridges.
The quick field strip bolt for fixing field problems like frozen firing pins or cleaning out obstructions.
Almost looks like it was designed with the military in mind as a Sniper rifle.

When we launched the Model 307 I knew that most of the Nation guys might not be a big fan.  Honestly, I am fine with that.  The Mark V isn't going anywhere, nor is the Deluxe.  The Model 307 didn't replace anything.  It is filling in a gap between the Vanguard and Mark V.  The entry price point is several hundred dollars above the Vanguard.  The 307 is made in USA and the Vanguard is Japan, as you know.  Weatherby has limited capacity in Japan whereas the Model 307 will be built in Sheridan and we will be able to adapt quick to the demands of the market.  The Vanguard will still appeal to the customer looking for value in a sub $1,000 rifle.  The Model 307 will appeal to those wanting the flexibility out of an action built with compatibility in mind and the Mark V will continue to appeal to those wanting something strong, different, classic and original built to handle the largest of shoulder fired rounds.

All those things to say, The Model 307 isn't meant to replace the Vanguard or Mark V, just merely compliment it.  The compatibility with aftermarket triggers, stocks, scope mounts, rails, etc... that the 307 will have is extensive.  Honestly, it is built with a different customer in mind.  The longtime loyal Weatherby user and customer may not like it, but it will most likely bring thousands of new customers into the Weatherby family and they may end up falling in love with a Mark V later.  As you can understand, reaching out to potential new customers is just good business...and helps the overall brand and product line up.

We will continue product development in other areas as well, including cartridges and the Mark V.  The Model 307 does not mean we are done developing things in our legacy lines.  Rather, the continued growth of the Weatherby brand through various offerings only means that we will have more resources to innovate and develop across the brand.

Since moving to Wyoming, Weatherby has expanded our in house capabilities tremendously.  We have doubled the size of our workforce, taken considerable market share, launched two new cartridges, started building carbon fiber stocks, brought ammunition loading back in house, grew our machining center significantly, developed and launched a new action...and the list goes on.  I couldn't be more proud of our team and what we have collectively been able to accomplish since our relocation.  The future is bright fellas and I couldn't be more excited about what lies ahead.  Thanks for your support over the years and for sticking around! Oh, and for all you "wood stock" fellas out there...I'll get you something new in the Mark V one of these days...just remain patient.  I got some things in the works.

Well, I like it and it's price point. But, I am LH and although I have 2 right handed Vanguards in a safe. I want left handed actions for hunting. The .257 is almost calling out to me. If they become available, it will sit next to the LH Mark V in the main safe.

Thanks Adam, it has a following alright and is the talk on many forums. Always appreciate you chiming in and i'm intrigued by the industry (many actually) and direction/attention to demand and new products.

I'm sure she will be a big hit, wish you all the best with every line you manufacture.

Use wood stock guys will be patient! ;)

Unless you start up a whole new birth or hand carved stock line i don't already own I might have to move to wy and look for a job when the wife kicks me out of the house and the State of Texas for all the Weatherby Mark v's I own! lol

Cheers - Donnie

I can see the demand for the Alpine and Range.  I'm a wood and synthetic stock person (I try to strike a compromise). I am more of a sporter style stock and flush magazine kind of person, but I'm sure there will be high demand for these rifles.

I am intrigued with the Builders Action.  I'll probably need to have one of those and have a rifle built.  I just need to think through what caliber and what rifle.

I really like the action!

I do like the idea of all the after market accessories for personalization  of the weapon, since these are so new no doubt other trick items will be in the pipeline down the road.  Both my son and I use 300 Wby's as our long range rifles 1 vanguard and 1 mkv,  and while the PRC's are in the spotlight right now they don't do anything older proven cartridges can do for the most part.  I was down at the swap meet yesterday guy had a Voere for cheap if a person wanted nice donor rifle and throw on a fast twist barrel and you would have a decent long range rifle.   IMO where the PRC's I will use as a generic term as there are other cartridges out there doing the same thing and being highlighted as in some cases longer ranges,  less recoil, higher BC's,  etc which is  good thing we always need improvements.  Pushing longer ranges with traditional calibers the .338  and other larger bores should be included.  I really do think we need to think outside the box not evolutionary but rather revolutionary new designs.

257's have a way of doing that! ;)
