3.5X10x50 VX-III on the .243 Synthetic and VX-L 3.5X10X50 on the .340 Accumark. The difference in scope height between the two 50s is incredible. The VX-III is on high mounts, the VX-L on lows. I would have considered a German/Austrian scope, but the VX-L truly does break the rules as only an American company can.
I have also used Nikon and Burris scopes. If I were pinching pennies, I would go with the Nikon.
My VX-III survived a fall better than either myself or my .243 MKV. The MKV had to go to the shop to fix a broken safety. The bolt would not stay down after I fell on it and forced it open.. The factory authorized shop that fixed my MKV said the only other time they had seen this type of damage was when the stock was broken as well. My synthetic stock didn’t break, but it does have some beauty marks
The VX-III is has matching beauty marks. I used a sharpie to blacken the aluminum that was exposed. I had to file the rim of ocular lens because the gouges were so deep. Did I mention it retained zero perfectly and no glass was broken? I was out of the hunt as I hyper extended my left knee. I attempted to go out the next day, but used my MKV as a crutch when my knee froze up.
Weatherby and Leopold, what a combo.
