.224 Weatherby Magnum

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the .224 Weatherby Magnum. I personally love this chambering. My dad has a German MarkV Varmintmaster. I would love to know your favorite loads as well.

I don't yet own a .224 WBY (they can be hard to come by) but if Weatherby will offer it in any model again, I'll pick one(or two) up.  Great round and a great gun.  Wish I could get my hands on a new one.

I too would line up to purchase a .224 magnum if it were offered again.  When I was young I would shoot my grandfather's .224 and it was the favorite gun of my youth.  I hope we can convince the people in Paso Robles to make this caliber a priority in the future.

This is my first day on this site, and I LOVE IT! I have already noticed that Ed Weatherby post here under the user name "eweatherby"

Ed, if you see this, can you please let us know why Weatherby no longer produces the .224 in a production rifle? You offer the Vangaurd Varmint in .204, .223, and 22-250...why not the .224?   I could only imagine you guys would make a KILLING by bringing this caliber back!!!

the .224 weatherby is such a flat shooting, accurate cartridge i cant imagine why they would discontinue it in the first place

You guys know that the next Weatherby round to be discontinued is the 240 right? No USA Deluxe rifles offered in this cal and no 26 inch barrel versions either. The 26 inch barrel really makes the 240 shine bright over the 24 inch barrel too, like most overbore capacity rounds similar to it do. All I can say is stock up on a couple Jap 26 inch 240s if your smart, heck even a 24 inch Deluxe will gain in value. Have any of ya'll even seen a 26 inch German Deluxe Mark V? Lets talk about it

I have a .224 Deluxe Jap and a .240 Lazermark also Jap.  I have not shot the 240 that much due to the fact that it is Lazermark.  I love the way it shoots and it looks great.  It has a 26 inch barrel.  My 224 has a 24 inch and have shot a six shot group at 200 yards a little over 1" group with Sierra Blitzking bullets.   Great gun.  I would like to find a good German 224.

My favorite load in my 224 is one that I don't have to weigh. Scoop a full length sized case full of some Winchester 760 powder, then seat a Nosler Ballistic Tip 50 grain bullet to overall length specs. Can't beat it in my gun. Very accurate. I've tried it in three 224's and have never been disappointed.

I have a West German 224 I would like to sell.  Gun is in great shape, couple of stock dings from the years, has tiger stripes front to back, original Weatherby pad, bluing is excellent. s/n S40XX.  Barrel is 24" and stamped Made in West Germany.  Hate to sell but want a different gun.  I can send pictures, or will resize to fit here.

I don't own a varmint rifle but if I did, I'd like it to be chambered for the .224 Wby.  It's such a neat little round.  Rebarreling a current Weatherby with a 26" barrel in a .224 would be an option.

I also don't think the .240Wby will be discontinued.  That caliber has a strong following but I agree, I really cannot understand Weatherby not offering it in a 26" barrel unless there really are no velocity advantages in doing so.

Maybe someone on the Weatherby team can address the comments here regarding the .224 and also the .240 being made available with a 26" barrel.

Here is one side of the gun.  The lighting is poor with the low res photo.  I can add more if there is interest.
