Northern Hunter, Do you have ballistics for the two rounds you mentioned? Seems like they would be solid rounds to consider for large game.

No I don't Danno, I'm just going by S.D of the big weights in the 6.5. My Swede runs those out the other side of deer at 200 yds, so that 6.5-300 Wby should do the same but a little further away. I recon those big weight should be about 2800 - 2900 fps, in my Swede they are about 2550 fps. They do lose trajectory quite quick because of the low B.C. From what I have read the 6.5 mm bullet don't need big velocity to be a very effective dispatcher of big game, and in those brown bears case a double shoulder shot would probably leave them with their chin on the ground and in 2 wheel drive mode instead of 4wheel drive.

I would sell my 300 Wby MarkV for a 6.5-300 Wby just to develop my own load using the 156 Oryx.

I only own one rifle chambered in what's considered a wildcat, and that is a .416 Taylor. It's a .458 Win mag necked down to .416

sure if they were created today they would all be based on the 300wby case...

weatherby did release the 6.5-300wby

plus now there are other big options, so I don't see the advantage of wby releasing similar magnums.

a 340wby with light bullets can smoke many of these smaller cals shooting bigger/same size bullets, and do it with less barrel length. of course the BC's will be lower with the 340, but are you really planning to shoot past 600yards? most of us I doubt are.

the 7mm-300wby makes sense, but there are so many 7mm mags out there, 7mm.rem, 28 Nosler, 7mm stw, 7mm RUM,
