I built a 264 WBY this year.  I'm necking 257 brass up and I'm getting an average velocity of 3278 with a 26'' barrel and a 140 grain Berger VLD bullet in cool weather.  It is very pleasant to shoot, and it's also very accurate.

If they came out with a 7mm-300, I would have to have one ;D

What barrel are you using and where did you get it? This sounds interesting.

I love the 270wby but for a wildcat I would go with a 7-300 or  a 6.5-257 either one would be great .The 6.5 has never been popular in this country and the 7mm weatherby has not been very popular either.I dont know if either one would take off.I dont like the short mag wby idea.I think Weatherby has all the bases covered.I am sure it cost alot to come out with a new round.Remember the 338-06? I dont think Weatherby will come out with something new with the way everything is going in the country.

IMO, Wby. blew the 338-06 deal by not offering it in a Vanguard, & having affordable ammo available. It is a great cartridge, but was just too costly for the potential market- just my 2 cents.

As far as the 6.5 goes; I love them all. The available bullets are superior to 25 caliber offerings, & 6.5's of any genre seem to be inherently accurate, unlike the vast array of 7mm"s in the marketplace. It's not muzzle velocity that makes a 6.5 so effective, it's the fact that it retains so much of it at extreme range. Anybody who owns a .264 Win. Mag. can attest to what I've said.

Now, if I could just get Wby. to offer a 6.5/300 Wby. It couldn't get any better, in my mind.

The 7mm/300 would be nice to see. I would also like to see a 9.3 built on the shorter 7mm Wby. that would be great in vanguards.

Would a 6.5-257 be a .257wby killer? or is there room for both?

Should it be a 6.5-257wby? or a 6.5-300wby?

there is so much 7mm competition out there, and wby already has a 7mm Wby, could weatherby just chamber and load ammo for the 7mm STW?? or would a 7mm-300wby be a better idea?

So while I'd love to see a 6.5mm Wby, which btw perhaps a better name would help sales, and better marketing, if people knew what better BC's and SD's meant, I don't think bullet weight and caliber would matter as much but they seem to, ie a 270 sounds bigger than a 264, and many don't know what size 6.5mm is? and it also sounds smaller than 7mm. So perhaps a 265wby?

How would a short action mag 6.5-416wby or 7mm-416wby fair? on a new short action stainless action from weatherby?

How about a 22 cal. Weatherby cartridge based on a necked down and shortened 240 Weatherby Mag? Or maybe base it on the full length 240. Would most likely take out the 220 Swift as the 22 caliber velocity champ. ;D        I also like the idea of a 6.5mm Weatherby Magnum either based on the 257 or the full length 300 case.

I Would love to see a .22 maybe out of the .240 case or .06 case. That would be sweet. Plus the 6.5-.300 the ballistics look off the chart! :o

If anyone remembers a company by the name of...Arnold Arms, they created a .270 Magnum based on the Winchester .300 Mag necked down to the .277 caliber, the ballistics were amazing, however, my .270 WBY Mag. does me just fine here in Texas. i remember the 1st deer I ever shot with my .270 WBY MAG, it SLAMMED  that Buck down soo HARD, I was Amazed at the power of the .270 WBY after hunting with the .270 Winchester for the last 30 years. I  will ONLY HUNT with Weatherby Magnums for the rest of my LIFE!!!!!!

.177/.378, yep thats what i want to se... what?? you asked, no really, 6.5 is all you would need... the only other consideration would be a 6mm , but all that energy would tear that lil bullet to pieces

I have a Wildcat 300 x 257 Weatherby chambered 1917 EddyStone Sporterized that was built in the 1950's in Africa possibly by someone first name Ralph that is all the lineage I have on this gun It is the most amazing piece in my arsenal. Flat super straight in long distance, fast and ridiculous knock down. If anyone out here has any leads about the original gunsmiths last name or know of any other examples of his work or any info at all please let me know. 8)
