How accurate is YOUR Weatherby?

I have no idea how accurate my 300 Wby Mag is.  My first tested load was 190 gr Hornady SPBT, shich shot a 1 1/2 inch group at 300 yards.  I have been using it for all hunting with this rifle for 15 years.  Always one shot kills.  Personally, if a load shoots one minute of angle, it is more than accurate enough for all big game hunting.

I just purchased a Vanguard SUB-MOA Varmint in .22-250.  I've put 100 rounds through it so far and I think the rifle is more accurate than I am right now.  My 100 yard groups are right at 1".  I did shoot a .71" group at 200 yards on my last string at the range.  This is with the cheapest Winchester ammo you can get.  I don't think you can find a more accurate rifle for the money.  I didn't know if I could ever replace my Ruger M77 target, but I have now done so.  I'm hoping with a little more practice and finding the right ammo I can consistently have 3/4" groups at 200 yards.  Then the prairie dogs had better be ware.

i have a blue/synthetic Vanguard that i made into a sub moa shooter. 270 win. replaced the factory trigger with a Timney, added a Hogue overmold with pillar bedding, & lapped the barrel with Tubbs final finish ammo. topped off with a leupold vari-x II 3x9x50 it shoots quality 130 & 140 gr loads into .50-.85 groups @ 100 yds with no problem except me at times. at 350 yds it & i shoot about 2-3"  most of the time depending on conditions. i have many more expensive rifles & they can't hold a candle to the Vanguard in the accuarcy department. imo it's the best buy out there right now. the 270 handles anything i care to hunt. i just got some 100 gr remmys that i've yet to shoot. hopin for a varmint round that shoots as well as the 130's. i doubt i'll be disappointed.

I shoot 3 shot groups with hunting rifles.  This group is pretty standard for my MkV.

With my Vanguard Sporter SS in 257, I am getting 3/4 to 1", 5 shot groups.  Handloads are 120gr Nosler Partitions, IMR 7828, 65grs and COL is 3.245.

I got a Mark V for christmas in 257 WBY. The best it will shoot is about 6 inches at 100 yd. Any suggestions?? Hope they stand behind thier products. This thing cost me about $1500 and does not shoot any better than a $300 Stevens!!!

In addition to all the good and obvious advice in this thread, here's a tip for you. Purchase or order your rifle from a dealer who carries a LOT of Weatherby stock. If you ask very nicely, they just might go through the boxes and look at the factory-supplied test targets and pick you out a real winner. While some Sub-MOA grouping rifles are plucked from the production line to become Sub-MOA models, with corresponding price tags, it's entirely possible to find a rifle that shoots to the Sub-MOA standard -- but wasn't selected to be a Sub-MOA model. That's how I found my .257, and I haven't looked back.

Today was competition day at the range.  My Wife, sister-in-law, her boy friend and I went out for the 100 yard break an egg challenge.  I went to the store and bought some Winchester soft points for my .22-250 SUB MOA Varmint.  I shot a few rounds at a paper target to determine where it was shooting in comparison to the other loads I usually shoot.  A few rounds and a couple clicks later the "fight" was on.  I'm sad to say that my wife out shot me… and every one else, breaking more eggs than the rest of us.  She was shooting over .500 and the rest of us just under.  All-in-all it was another great day at the range with my Weatherby.  I think this is just another testament to the quality and accuracy of Weatherby, when you can just pick up a couple boxes of off the shelf ammo from Wal-Mart and even the inexperienced shooters can break eggs at 100 yards.  Good Shootin'   Dan

I've never reloaded for my three weatherby rifles. My two .300's and my 7mm all shoot consistant one inch groups with factory ammo.180 grain for the .300's and 154 grain for the 7mm.One interesting thing is that my 7mm will shoot will shoot 5/8 inch groups consistantly with 175 grain factory loads.

I consider myself a very good shot - have had plenty of practice and good form.

From owl-ear rear sandbags and a Lyman front rest at...200 yards I have planted 3 shots at .390 of an inch with handloads from my 257LazerMark and as the one shot group at a 1.5" piece of painters' tape shows in my "Trophy Room" it hits where the reticle is centered.

I believe 99% of the Weatherby rifles shoots 300% better than the man behind it.

My .257 Accumark shoots 3/8" groups with either BT or Accubonds.
My .308 Accumark shoots 5/8" groups with Barnes TSX.

The .257 is factory ammo and the .308 is loaded by Superior.

My Mark V Fibermark in 7 Wby shoots under 1/2" with all the loads I have worked up for it. Those loads are:
160 NorthFork @ 3180 fps...1/4"
150 Scirocco @ 3230 fps...3/8"
140 Accubond @ 3050 fps...3/8"

I have fired roughly 250 rounds, all handmade, through this rifle since I bought it in April '06. If you were to overlay all targets fired, which includes loads that didn't work out, the aggregate group would measure no more than 3".

Free floating the barrel meant everything in my gun.
It all started with a 280....

I have a Vanguard Synthetic in 30-06 that I bought in 2004.  It always shot one inch groups, but then I bought and put on the best synthetic stock that Weatherby offers on their online store, and now it is incredible how tight the groups are.  I just loaded some Barnes 168 grain hollow point boat-tail match grade hunting bullets, and printed a group at just over ½ inch at 100 yards.
