First let me say the 30-06 is a great round for Elk.  The load I use is 48gr of IMR-4064 with 180gr Nosler Accubonds.  The rifle is a 700 Remington wih a 22" barrel.  The load produces 5/8" groups and I feel very confident out to 300 yds with it.  The Accubond bullets are really hard to beat for North American game.  I shoot the 110 grainer in my 257 Weatherby and the same 180 in my 30/378 Weatherby.

The Accubonds also have a harder copper jacket and don't foul barrels as fast as some other bullets (Swift Scirocco/TB Bearclaws/Old Barnes-X).  I have found that shooting animals up close (50-100yds) with a Big Horsepower mag (300 WBY) those Accubonds act just like Nosler Ballistic Tips(alot of meat damage).  They are very accurate in my .300 WBYs(Accumark)(Sako75), .270 WIN (140gr)(Custom Sako), .270 WIN (130gr)(Beratta Mato) and .25-06(Sendero).
If I could just get them to shoot in my 300WSM(Haven't been able to find any handloads that shoot sub-moa in that rifle, maybe my dies are bad).
I don't have a 30-06 but I would load up some 180 Accubonds maybe with some H4831 or H4350.  Try to get it running out the barrel at 2800+ FPS.  That would be a great load.

The 168gr. Barnes TSX load on the Barnes website looks pretty good and Cor-Bon has it factory loaded to 2900fps. Should be just the ticket for Elk or almost anything else out of 30-06.

I use only Swift 180 gr. A-frames for elk in my Weatherby 30-06.  I have always had 100 % success with one shot kills, as has my Son.

200gr Nosler Partition or the 200gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claw use IMR 4064 powder and be happy for life. the accubonds are also a good bullet as is the sierra gamekings which i use in my 300win for elk and black bear.
