25-06 handloads on coyotes?

25-06 handloads on coyotes?

Hey guys I was wondering what was the best bullets on the pelts for coyotes and occasional fox for my vanguard s2. I was thinking maybe a 100 grain barnes tsx or I seen hornady 75 grain hollow points. I figured asking you guys would be my best bet.
Thanks, Scott

PA: If you are worried bout damage to the pelts I sure would not use 75 hp or something like the 75 vmax etc.The 100 tsx, ttsx or 80 ttsx will work well without causing a lot of damage.I got Wylie a few weeks ago with the 257 Wby  and 80 ttsx.

A 25.06 isnt much of a pelt caliber for coyotes, and definitely not for fox, but it would be good to whack em with. Even my 22.250 is pretty tough on fox, Ive wrecked alot of fox pelts with one.

Prob overkill for yotes.  I've done better with 243 and 22-250.   If your gonna use the 25-06, you should consider at best like something like a VMAX 75 gr.  Then again, my dawg' ever was season before last in Virginia, I was deer hunting with a 270 WSM she made her first and last appearance,...   ;D
There are as many answers to that one as there are reasons men hunt, fight, skydive, gamble or take up with redheaded ladies.

I've seen fox pelts wrecked with a 17 HMR, I can't imagine what a 25-06 would do. Well I can imagine, and unless you want your foxes in halves, I wouldn't recommend it. We generally hunt foxes with a shotgun & .17 HMR and a 22.250 for coyotes. You want a bullet that will make a small entrance hole and won't exit.

So I can't salvage a coyote pelt with my 25-06?

I wouldn't say it's not possible and could very well vary from shot to shot. If they are far enough away you are probably alright, but inside 100 yards you are going to hit it pretty hard and no saying that even a v-max or ballistic tip won't exit. Rodger hit his with an 80 gr ttsx from a 257 weatherby and if he says it doesn't tear em up too bad, the 25-06 shouldn't be any worse. But I can't imagine the ttsx won't exit leaving a decent hole. I might start with the 75 gr v-max and see how it performs. Should leave only a quarter inch entrance hole and turn the vitals into soup with no exit if it performs as advertised. You just don't know until you try.

The Barnes will blow through both sides but dont leave a very big hole.In my experiences with coyotes and 257 wby,I have gotten an exit most times with the 75 vmax.Pretty much makes a pelt worthless when it has.I have read where others shooting smaller calibers had the bullets blow up inside the animal and not cause much damage as Issac said.
