MK V 270.. what model is it??
« on: January 12, 2008, 08:19:26 PM »
I have brought a used MK V 270 Win, and am having a little prob determining what model it is.
Its Stainless with fibreguard style stock on it.
Any ideas based on serial number, features etc?

Cheers :)

If it's Japanese made, and has a little bit of a 'yellow' tint to the stainless, you might have a Mark V Alaskan.  I think they came in Fibermark style stocks, and I know they were nickel finished guns, for weather resistance.

Thanks for reply.
I should have mentioned in orginal post, its a US made MK V.
Serial number is WS003255 and the bolt has 3 vent holes and fore/art flutes lightly milled in it.
Stock is Pliar bedded
Decelerator recoil pad.

Barrel is thinner than my Fibreguard Vanguard in 30-06 and 270 is alot lighter.
Vanuguard weighed 8 1/3 lbs scoped etc.. this is noticably lighter (no scales here at mo)

It almost sounds like the Fibermark Stainless that was discontinued 4-5 years ago.  The Stainless Synthetic had the injection molded stock and no pillar bedding but the upgraded Fibermark Stainless had the hand layered stock and pillar bedding.

Between the two stocks?  Yes....

The injection molded stock will be a solid, smooth black finish and, if you look underneath the forearm, you'll see a faint seem running from the forend tip down to the action.  The Fibermark stock will have a crinkle type finish applied and it won't have the same plastic type of feel.

SHould have been more specific.
It IS a fibreguard stock. Any way to tell if it is a Fibremark of 4-5 years ago?

You'll probably have to contact Weatherby and let them look up the serial number of your gun to really tell.
