Roy Weatherby used Colt handguns?

The recent topic about favorite handgun brands made me wonder what Roy Weatherby used.  I found a small bit of information on page 132 in  the book Weatherby The Man. The Gun. The Legend. "and down went the hyena--some 200 yards away--broke his back, but he wasn't dead--it took a shot from my Colt to put him out."  Now it makes me wonder if it was a 1911 Govt. 45 or perhaps a revolver?  Maybe Ed can provide more information.
"I'd rather live by a man that owned a Weatherby rifle than shoot another brand!"

I believe the handgun he used was probably the guides as I was unaware of my father owning any handguns except a very customized Walther pistol that some one gave to him as a gift.
