Hey hows everyone doin im new to the site was looking for a little information on my new Weatherby I bought last weekend. Went to GI Joes with a buddy just to look for a new rifle and stumbled onto what I thoguht was a Weatherby Vanguard .308 Light Weight Stainless I bought it just thinkin hey its a Weatherby there pretty good guns from what I hear. I got the gun home and started lookin at the receipt that came with the gun, the tag on the gun said Weatherby Vanguard 308 Stainless for $389 on sale but when I checked the gun out again I realized the barrel said Mark V and not Vanguard. So really I think I got a good deal on the gun but can't find out what the gun really retails for now that I know its a Mark V. I went to the range today and did really well with the gun being right out of the box and a Nikon Prostaff scope. Im dialed in dead on at 200 Yards, I guess my question is what is the ballpark price for a Weatherby Mark V Light Weightless Stainless 308 im just tryin to find out what the gun is really worth. Any info will help.

If it's a stainless gun, it's not an ultralightweight. It sounds like a stainless synthetic, which would have the black tupperware stock, or perhaps a stainless fibermark, with a pillar bedded stock. Pictures would help immensely. The ULW would be a stainless barrel, but coated with a black coating, and will be fluted. A 'lightweight' will look like an accumark with a blued receiver and stainless fluted barrel, but have a 24" barrel instead of the 26" of the accumark. Regardless of what you got, it sounds like you got a deal, for sure.

I believe the ULW is stainless, isn't it? It's a blackened stainless barrelled action. I don't have the catalog in front of me but I think that's what I read.

Thanks for the info so far lookin at the box is says Light Weight Stainless 308Win 24", so from the box and actually looking at the gun I dont think its an Ultra Light weight model just a Light Weight. The gun itself just has a plain black synthetic stock and the rest is all stainless, I dont know how to tell if its got a pillar bedded stock but I don't think it does. The barrel itself isn't fluted at all. Ill try and throw some pictures on here today. Thanks to all

Yeah, JB, that's what I was trying to say in my post. The ULW is a stainless barrel, but coated black. Not sure about the action. If it's just a plain black synthetic stock, and a stainless action, it's a Mark V stainless synthetic, I guess. Again, can't wait for pix. I'm assuming the bolt is a six-lug design?

You can look at the catalog in pdf
by clicking on the tabs under the picture frame. 399weatherby.com

It look like only vanguard has SS line. Mark V is in black.

There were full-stainless Mark V's a few years ago, however. It sounds like this is a New-Old-Stock (NOS) gun the dealer had hiding in the back room. That may also be why it was marked down.
