It seems like you have been waiting a long time for that rifle, but I am certain it was worth the wait. I hope you will keep us informed when you begin shooting it so we can see what is working best for you. What scope will you put on it?

Don't know yet, I am still debating that.  Until I decide what it will be I will put a Buckmaster 4.5-14x40mm SF BDC on it to begin load work. I like Ziess, Bushell 6500, Leupold VX-III and other upper class Leupolds.  Suggestions would be appreciated.  I will use it to take shots from up close to 600yds (that is how far I can safely practice at my range).  I will hunt deer, hogs, black bear, elk, and hopefully in the spring of 2011 bear in Alaska.    I would like to hear all the ideas any of you have on scope to mount.

I do like the Picitinny Rail they have so much more latitude for mounting scopes.  Another really good scopes are the Meopta's, optically they are about as good as they get for a lot less money as compared to the upper end Zeiss & Swaro's,  but still not cheap. The Nikon as you mentoned is a real nice scope also.  If you do get a Meopta they make both 1 st and 2 nd plane scopes reticles depending on what you are looking for.  I always tell people go to a good optics store like a Cabelas and look thru them before making a decision.  Most decent scopes today are actually pretty clear where it counts is the internals.   Ron

You will find that shooting 600 yards is rather ho-humm with your rifle after a while. Shooting is just getting interesting at that distance!

It is an amazing caliber and a beautiful rifle. As you will hunt with it, rather than just target shoot, I suggest a scope in the 4-14x40mm range instead of the long range target style scopes. There are many to select from.

All you mentioned will work fine.I have a 4.5-14 Buckmaster om my 50 cal muzzleloader and it works and has held up fine.I  believe the Bushnell 6500 in 2.5-16 x50 in the mil dot would work great for all the different hunting situation you have listed.Mil dot for hold over at longer ranges if you have it set on 10X and 2.5 for shooting those Alaska Bear up close. The 6500 gives you lots of eye relief for that monster rifle( I hate scope eye) and the 30 mm tube with the 50 mm objective will really bring in light.I have a 6500 in the 4-5-30x50 mil dot and love it except I wish I had gotten the 2.5x16.Anyone want to swap?Just my 2 cents.
