I have completed my load work for the 340Wby. I have specific loads for the following.
Dangerous game: Two dangerous game loads one being the Nosler 250gr Accubond and the other is Nosler 250gr Partition.
Large none dangerous game: One load, 250gr Sierra Game King SBT
Medium to Small big game: One load for Deer, Black bears, hogs, sheep, antelope, coyotes. Hornady 200gr SST
Dangerous game:
250gr Accubond 2913fps - Group size is .657"

250gr Partition (factory load) 2990fps -
Three shot group size is .437"

Five shot group size is .727" moving at 2990fps

Large none dangerous game:
250gr Seirra Game King SBT 3020fps

Medium to Small big game: Hornady 200gr SST 3243fps - group size .409"

Here is the backing that lets me measure better

That looks like excellent work to me. If that doesn't get the job done you'd better call in artillary!

Yes James, this will get the job done in spades. This is my DRT rifle on game (dead right there).

awesome results !
still trying to decide between the 225 gr ttsx or the 250 gr partition for moose hunting
The 180 gr partition from a 30'06 didnt impress me a few years ago, Shot a small moose at 150 yards with it (2 shot in the lungs) and the bullets stopped in the rib cage on perfect broadside shots.
3000 fps with a 250 gr is mighty impressive, can't wait to see what my accumark can do next month, I would like to see your load data if possible
thanks

The 250gr Partition will be more effective, more efficient and will drop game quicker than the TSX. Four years of using the TSX and the Partition in 257Wby, 7mmSTW, 300Wby, 375Wby has proven to me the Partition for the reasons I stated above is the better choice.

All bullets and bullet weights achieved the velocities recorded and the accuracy posted, using IMR7828, Weatherby brass, Rem 9 1/2M primers.
Powders tried, H4831, H4350, IMR4350, H380, RL-25 and RL-22

Circuitrider:For years I have used 250 grain Remington Core Locts
in a 338 Win Mag and was happy.I now
use Barnes TSX with my 257 Weatherby Magnums and I am also very happy, no problems, but I am smoking them out there,
so I feel they work best in my comparisons to Partitions.

In accuracy and velocity the TSX's were very good in my 257Wby but not in the field on taking game. Only one deer shot left a little and I mean little blood trail the others did not. In the thick pine woods I looked for one for 2 hours and 20 minutes. I hit him in the chest at 354yds and he still went 80yds. I do not have this poor field results with Accubonds, Partitions or Sierra Game King. All five TSX shot out of my 257Wby were in the heart and lung area. The only deer that went down where I shot him was one I hit with my 300wby and that was because the TSX deflected off a rib and went through the spin. I have had similar results on hogs and black bear.
These are field result and not theory. I am a very good shot and I place all my shots with the TSX's where they were suppose to go and those who know me know I hit where I aim. I do not like the TSX period and have given up on them before I loose some trophy using them. I am not the only one who hunts a lot and takes a lot of game each year that has experienced what I have with the TSX. If you like them of course you should keep using them but I don't like them and I won't use them anymore.
The TSX is not a great improvement over the X and the reasons for little blood trail and game running most of the time before going down has to do with the wound channel. Note the wound channel of the XBT and I did not get any better results when using the TSX. When cleaning the animals the wound channel is the problem. I did not say the TSX does not kill the game, all I am saying is that it is not as quick and efficient killer on the average as the Partition and the Northfork has the superior wound channel.

MAG4ME, this rifle has basically shot every bullet well and some very well. I really like this rifle and I can't wait till hunting seasons again, it will be fun.

CR: Do you have picks of your rifle? Is it as sweet as Oregon Jim's .340?
Most rifles are accurate. It comes down to whose squeezing the trigger.

What are the specks on your rig(scope, brand of barrel, base/rings, aftermarket trigger?)? It looks sweet.

Bustinbirds, Thank's for the compliment, but I think a side-by-side comparison of the two rifles would tip the scales towards that beautiful custom rifle, and I would have to be on my best form to match the groups CircuitRider has posted. I love my rifle dearly, but I'm suffering from a little custom rifle envy at the moment.
I will say this; It would be a tremendous thrill to meet with all friends on this Weatherby site to have a shooting match one day. I wish that somewhere, perhaps in regions, gatherings of Weatherby shooters could be arranged with competitions, exhibitions, and prizes. I'd travel a good distance to attend and perhaps even compete in a Weatherby sponsored event, and believe that thousands of Weatherby shooters would too. I'd love to shoot against CircuitRider and many others that visit this site, and wouldn't have my feelings hurt if they whooped me. It would just be great fun!

Jim:That is an excellent idea of getting the people here together some time.A shoot might be hard to put together but it would be fun just to visit .Maybe at Weatherby in Ca or perhaps somewhere like the Shot Show.
Circuitrider:Excellent info with the wound channel data. Thanks for posting it.
