+1 Interesting story. Goes to show the energy of the trusty 12 gauge. One of the best close-up defense guns to have in your hands, whether it's loaded with slugs or buckshot! Looks like that bear dropped immediately on impact.

I have taken deer with slugs in "shotgun only" areas. Yup, they are deadly even without expanding. 74 caliber in and out! I do have a bolt action slug gun now. It's a Savage 212, close to moa at 100yds.

What an ordeal.  I would have a 12 gauge pump
Gun handy at all times in that neighborhood.
That thing messed up there house in seconds.
