Late Season Moose Hunt

Late Season Moose Hunt
« on: November 20, 2017, 04:20:27 PM »
We are heading to Thunder Bay (Ontario) tomorrow at 11:30 pm for an 8 day late season moose hunt packing a bull tag for 8 guys. I am bringing my 7MM Rem Mag with Federal 160 grain Trophy Bonded Tip.
Looks like good snow to track so we are optimistic. This is my first year for this hunt so as you can imagine I am fired up.

Last year the group had a cow tag.......and you guessed it, saw no cows but several nice bulls. I have no cell service this far back in the northern bush so I will report when I get back

What happen if the party is split up hunting and happen to shoot 2 or 3 bulls at the same time? With no cell service you wouldn't know until you were back to camp ???
I can't tame wild women
But I can make tame women wild

We came home empty from our late season moose hunt in Thunder Bay, the Timber wolves beat us to the moose. We had about a foot of snow and lots of moose tracks but for every moose track there was several Timber wolf tracks. A couple of the guys saw four wolves laying on the ice of a beaver pond, we assume with belly's full of moose meat.
We hunted hard but never did cut a fresh track but still had a fantastic hunt with some close friends, we will get them next year if we luck out and get another tag. Below are a few pictures

Is that normal to see that much wolf sign? Seems like people are seeing more wolf sign everywhere

Was thinking the same thing. I hear more and more Western hunters talking about wolves. Not sure how it is in Canada but I know in the U.S. activist types have basically weaponized the ESA and it seems to be causing trouble.
