This is appalling, unacceptable treatment of vets. Supposedly, there are some sane officials trying to stop this nonsense. And I thought quality of care in VA hospitals was the worst of it.

Any excuse to take guns away?

Maybe a better way to help vet's would be to privatize the whole system. just a thought
-
The VA system would probably be improved, as it's crap.

Two words and three letters can describe the VA.
Full of D.E.I. Or quack doctors that aren't good enough to work somewhere else or have their own practice
-
I have worked in 2 different VA's,National Navy Medical Center and Walter Reed. I was not happy at what I saw. I have taken 2 different people to the VA here in W Palm Beach, a world of difference! They care here!

I believe it depends on where they are. Here in GA, two VA hospitals and they are efficient, and very seldom you hear any horror stories about them. The VA just opened a clinic about 10 miles from me, and from what my friend told me, it's very good.

After being in the VA health care system since retirement I have only been disappointed once. I have been treated for possible lung cancer (false alarm), skin cancer, COPD, hearing, vision and gall bladder issues. When my rifle blew up on me I was got a helicopter ride to University of Utah where the professor of orthopedic surgery operated on me at 11;00 PM to put my left hand back together. All of this at no cost to me other than cost of gas.
My only disappointment came in 2022 when the VA stopped authorizing Symbicort. I questioned this because this happened shortly after the study came out indicating that older covid 19 patients taking Symbicort were being under reported as being infected with covid. Meaning fewer patients using Budesonide were being infected with covid than the average. I have been paying for that prescription out of pocket since.
I just had my annual check up at the local clinic and everything checked out well including my BP of 118/69. My physician, so sure of my health, insisted I make an appointment for my next annual check up before I left.

Good to hear there are actually some good outcomes. The horror stories concerning poor care are extensive though. Veterans deserve the best care available anywhere.

Only bad news makes the press.
Unfortunately that is more than 90% of the news we get.
