It might be unfair for me to post but my oldest personal Weatherby that I own is a Mark XXII given to me by my father in 1963. It's was made by Beretta.

The Mark V is a 270 Wby Mag serial #29XXX puts it at 1961.
The Winchester 92 is in 38-40 it's # is 78XXX made in 1895.
Both have been in my family since new.

Obviously all Weatherby's would count even though Ed has the unfair advantage.
That means the 130 year old 92 doesn't! ;) and is to hard to compete with anyway.
-
I have a weatherby from 1956

If you go to support on weatherbys website you can authenticate your history ::)

This .300 Wby Mag is German c.1968 #xx110. King of .30 cal.

Well i picked up a made in japan 300wm mark V deluxe from a friend of mine. It came with the original box of shells he purchased with the gun. The price on the box of ammo was $28 and there was a tiger on the box. It also had a weatherby scope on it. The serial # on the gun is H120923. I am thinking late 60's or early 70's. I paid for it used what he claims he paid for the whole package new $650. I think I got a good deal.
thx Travis
-
all business acording to your serial number it was made about 1980. this info comes from the book Weatherby The Mam The Gun The legend.
Derrill

thx always wondered how old it was.

Peymor,
I am very curious about your rifle that you state is from 1946. Can you tell us what the serial number is on that rifle? There are some oddities about the rifle that the serial number might give some clarity to.
Thanks,
Dan Weatherby

.300, MK. V Deluxe, Serial# H104269. I inherited a 1948. 300 that has seen many a Midnight Sun in Alaska. and shows it and a 1952 30-06 both of these are pre MK V and have been heavily used. The still shoot great but I retired them for newer MK Vs over the years...Pictures to follow later.
-
Over what period of years were Mk V Deluxe marked as Southgate CA but made in Japan. I have a 300 Wby with a 24" barrel that I know is older but I want to find how much so.
-
Fortunate to have late Fathers 1954 270 Weatherby Magnum Deluxe, Mauser action, that was sent to Bloomingdales Department Store NYC. Also picked up a 1957 300 Weatherby Magnum Deluxe, Mauser action - production rifle right before Mark V went into production. Its cool to know this Company's history. Both tack shooters. 270 is 26" barrel, 300 is 24".
Today, I proudly own a Mark V Deluxe 300 WBY Mag, made in USA, Atascadero, CA. Nothing shoots flatter....(http://s3.amazonaws.com/weatherbynation/41709-400x400.jpg) (http://www.weatherbynation.com/image/tid/2346?startId=41709)

1954 fn 30-06 shoots tight ;D
-
You have a 54 Mauser in 30-06 that was done by Weatherby? I guess I didn't realize they did them in non magnums back then.
-
i have a german mark v 7mm p35763
and a japan mark v 257 h103193
anyone know when they are made?

Yes we are still waiting on those pictures TJ??
-
The 1954 is in 270 not 30-06. It's awesome to shoot and both the 54 and 57 have had minimal rounds shot thru it. I've shot more with the USA 300 Mark V than both the 54 and 57 combined. Great rifles. All have papers from Weatherby as well.
-
I see there are a lot of older Weatherbys out there. I just purchased a 1968 Weatherby MarkV Deluxe 30.06 Ser # P31###. I have dated this one to 1968. The second year that Weatherby manufactured the 30.06. This is was also manufactured in West Germany.
-
1958 Mk V in .375 Weatherby Magnum purchased off Gunbroker, the 630th Mk V made. I have decided to have it refinished. Here is a link to the gunbroker page which some of you have already seen, About 12 photos of it are there.

I've got a 1952 model 22-250 with double set triggers, a chrome bore, 26 inch barrel, and a J Unertl fixed 12X in target blocks. That's 13 years before the ammo was sold over the counter. Also have a 1949 or 50 model round nose in 270 Winchester. I just got a letter of authenticity back on a 26 inch, 220 Rocket that was built in 1957. I'm working on a letter of authenticity of a 220 Swift that I think is 54 or 55 model. If you can't tell by my handle here, I like the 22 cal. Weatherby's.
-
By the way. That 57 model 220 Rocket shoots 5/8ths inch groups while fire forming brass out of 220 Swift ammo. So far I haven't reloaded any of the brass yet,but have data from an old Weatherby manual listing near 4400 FPS loads for a 50 grain pill.

First year of the .22 deluxe (made in Italy). I'm now 71 years old, so I guess this is quite a while ago. Grandkids now shoot it, so it's still in the family. I'm guessing early 60's).
-
I'm beat,.... 1976 is my oldest. Unfortunately, I older than it is.
-
i currently own 2... I have a first year German made mark V in .300 that does not have the fluted bolt.
I also have a Japanese made .340.. I was made in the mid 80's for a Weatherby Distributor as a sales promotion item.. It has the fancy wood stock 26" barrel and the Weatherby Custom engraved floor plate.. It also has a Weatherby 4 power scope setting on top of it ( there for looks i assume) this rifle has never been fired. I picked it up at an auction when the Distributor died..
-
My 300 WBY isn't old like "beginning of Weatherby firearms" old. It's just old for the "return to the USA" Weatherbys as it has an SB prefix serial number under 100.
-
nwredneck, how about posting pictures of your rifle :D
-
Just picked up a 1954 300wby (mauser action) 202x serial - hoping to get some info on the old "very odd" rifle.
We have german / jap & USA made MKV's but the mauser is the one I prefer.
-
Received this Weatherby 300, passed down from my grandfather, who received it from a patient of his. For the life of me, I cannot locate a S/N on it. I'm guessing it's from mid-50s, with a 1917 Enfield action. Any info would be appreciated.
-
SN is probably under the front scope mounting base.Your rifle is what's called a "Round Nose" and it will be under the 1200 SN.SN will probably be under a 1000.

224KING,
Thanks for the info. I spoke with someone in the Weatherby custom shop regarding my rifle, and it sounds like it may be from late 40s. How does "Round Nose" apply to this rifle? I understand how it applies to some large caliber bullets with a round nose, but not sure what it means in regards to this rifle.
-
The first rifles that were converted or built from scratch by Roy had a rounded fore end on the stock.Sometime in between the SN 1100 and 1200 he started building them like they are still to this date with a more squared off fore end clip with the reversed 45 degree angle.See how much different your fore end clip is compared to the Deluxe models today? That is what I'm talking about. There are a certain few collectors that only collect these rifles.
-
I removed the scope mount and found the SN under the front mount as suggested in replies here. The pic shows U.S. Model of 1917 Remington 348054. Did Weatherby build rifles with Remington Enfields? Or is this something else all together?
-
Early Weatherby conversion.Butt pad pretty much seals the deal.I believe it to be authentic. It does have a white diamond inlay in the pistol grip cap doesn't it?

Yes, it does.
-
I inherited mine at the age of 13yrs old i am now 39. from my uncle who was a marine sniper in Vietnam he said weatherby had a rep on the base and was giving them discounts for the military guys if i remember right he said he paid somewhere around 300.00 for it (dont quote me on that). 300.wby mag Mark V made in Germany serial #30026 the only hunting rifle i have ever owned. i have no intentions on selling it but i would like to know the value of it if anyone knows. its still in great shape the blueing is not perfect but no rust and no pits.
-
700 to 1200 depending on condition and what scope/mounts it has
-
I know my 270 Weatherby is not the oldest by far but it is an older model. The safety is not on the bolt , the bolt is not fluted and it doesn't say Made in West Germany on the barrel but does say it under the action . The Mark V designation on the side is written a little different than later models , has Pat pending instead of pat numbers and the serial number has no letters. The kick pad says Weatheby's "tomorrow's rifles today" South gate, Calif. I believe it was made around 61-62. The only thing I know for sure is I love it ! 😃
-
I have serial number 106 in 300 Weatherby Magnum. It is stamped with South Gate, Calif on the left. How old is it?
-
#106

More #106

I think 1949. ‘68 would have a prefix, it would not have a round nose, and would not be on a Mauser action, right?
-
68 Years old.You asked how old is it not what year made.

My apologies 224KING. I had read most of your posts wondering how I could be so wrong on this one. Obviously you know your stuff. I found a group of guns that have me wondering if Roy Weatherby had something to do with each one. I will post pictures this weekend. The deceased owner, Carl Vincent Little, lived in Fremont, Ca. The guns include a Sporterized 1942 G33/40, engraved by Jos. Leuthner; #106 I posted here, a modified US 1917 Remington Enfield, and more. I’ve been around guns my whole life and knew about Weatherbys, but didn’t know if he was customizing guns. i.e. machine turning bolts to include the bolt knob. The craftsmanship is just too good to be the average Joe gunsmith.
-
Sure could be.That fits the profile before he started building rifles with his chamberings. He would take your rifle and put his signatures to it.

224KING, Please have a look at these guns and let me know your thoughts. Do they carry Roy Weatherby's signature work?
-
Generally if he took in a rifle and did work it came out with a white diamond in the pistol grip cap,a rosewood tip on the fore end and a honey comb butt pad with an inscription that read "Weatherbys Tomorrows Rifle Today" then Southgate,California.

Been reading through all 5 pages here. My Mark V has a 60th birthday coming up on 9-4-18. I do believe I have the oldest Mark V, 33rd one ever made! :)
-
Bad, Is there a story behind how you came to own the 33rd oldest Weatherby?
-
Being the cheap bastard that he is, he found a good deal and jumped on it. ;D ;D ;D Just kidding, but I had to do it. 8) I'm sure I'll hear about it. LOL!!!!!
-
Tra la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la, Happy Birthday Sweet Sixty! (Neil Sedaka) Anyway, she's probably the prettiest Sixty year old around.
-
You are correct, PARA45. :) I bought it on Gun Broker from a dealer in Texas at a decent price . I do believe the seller had no clue what he had. I wasn't sure either till I had it in my hands and we discussed at length here. It is a 1 in 12 barrel so it is limited to .270 lighter weight bullets. It does real well with 110gr. TSX. I did spring for the $50 history on it. It was sold to a dealer in Texas (not the same one I bought it from) on 9/4/58 Here's a picture of the action when I first got it. :D
-
Good story Bad. A good deal on a priceless rifle, and a great niche of Weatherby history belongs to you.
-
Here it is wearing a Nikon Prostaff 7 3-12x42 in Talleys. :)
-
She's a Looker alright! Love to see tiger stripes in a stock, just makes it stand out more.
-
It is a pretty stock. It does have some dings ,still in better shape at 60 than I was! Somebody sure took good care of this rifle. I just take it to the range. I'm afraid of messing it up hunting in the jungle here. 110gr. TSX with RL19 and 130gr. A-Frame with H1000 are both sub moa . :)
-
Hey Bad, want to adopt me, and maybe put me on your inheritance for that rifle? I'm housebroken, can reload, fairly descent cook, don't eat much, and wash dishes. LMAO!!!!

Have you noticed how many of these posters have not posted again, including Ed? One we lost a while back, past on. :( Guess I do have the oldest Mark V. Anybody else have a Classic Mark besides me?
-
I have a Round Nose that was the 975th rifle Weatherby made.It was built 10 years before any Mark V's were built.
-
10 years before a Mark V, now that is an old Weatherby.
-
ED, I also have a 63 Weatherby XXII made in Italy that I bought in 1963. Still shoots like a dream.
-
Hello, I was wondering if you still have s/d 106? Thanks Ray
-
I receive this Weatherby from my uncle, it an Eddystone 30-06, custom in the late 40's by Ed before he started tracking serial number of the guns he work on.
-
My father-in-law has a few pre German rifles. One is a pot bellied .378 wby mag.
-
Just to update on my post from several years ago. I still have that #630 Mk V in .375 Wby. It is among the first MK Vs and was one of those that were made by sand casting in the USA before there was any manufacture in Germany. Weatherby did a fantastic job restoring it and now it holds a place of honor among my Mk Vs. I will pull it out this afternoon, photograph it and post the photo here for all to see. The scope on it is an older scope that I had laying around just to make it look period perfect. The bore is in great condition. But, I do not plan to ever shoot it. I will just preserve it. I do not know how many sand cast Mk Vs are still around. It would be interesting to know if there are any others out there.

Weatherby on an FN Mauser in 375 Weatherby Magnum 1954.

Should be earlier than that Wim.I have a Letter of Authenticity on one with SN 177X.The Weatherby historian places it late in 1951 to very early 1952.

Going to bump this thread to the top of the list and add my rifle's serial numbers. My oldest Weatherby rifle is a Pre-Mark V that has the serial number 117, so it's pretty early! I believe they started numbering the Weatherby Pre-Mark V FN Mauser rifles with the serial number 101, which makes this the 17th Weatherby Pre-Mark V made! I know that there's at least 1 earlier rifle in this thread, so unfortunately my rifle isn't the earliest known. However it's an awesome rifle and I'm glad that I own it!
The rifle is chambered in .300 Weatherby Magnum, has a Jaeger trigger and a Rex Sha-Cul muzzle brake. I tried searching for this muzzle brake online and there was next to no information about it. Does anyone else have one of these brakes on their rifle? The rifle had a Bausch & Lomb scope system on it, which was pretty common for rifles the were around in this time period (that's why the receiver has the 2 hole on the right side of the rear bridge). The scope wasn't in the best condition, so I'm going to either replace it with a better example or find an old period correct Leupold that has turned a nice purple color (I love the old Leupolds that have the blued finish patina).
I'm also wondering if I should send the rifle back to Weatherby (if they offer restoration services) or somewhere else to have it restored. The receiver is in great shape, but the top of the barrel lost most of it's bluing and the stock has a good amount of wear. I have no idea how a lot of the barrel has it's bluing rubbed off, I've never seen that before. What do you guys think I should do with it?

Tom, do you happen to know what the time frame was for the Europa builds?
-
Same time that the Deluxe Mark V's were being built by JP Sauer & Sohn for the North Americas.
The stocks were a little plainer in figure and they were oil finished instead of gloss. They also were chambered in European calibres with a few American cals too.
