I have not used anything to measure the inch pounds on the screws but I have always tightened up the screws on a savage in that order.  Also when I had my old 722 target rifle re crowned last summer the guy who did the work put her back in the stock and put the gorilla twist on the action screws and it didn't shoot until everything was loosened up then tightened back up to where it was happy.  It made a pretty big difference five shots under a dime at 100 yards vs half dollars.  At 300 my groups would have gone from a little over an inch to a hot mess.  So I'm sure it makes a difference

Personally I could care less if it's range certified.  I'll certify my own stuff at the range but I guess it's a big draw for some.  If it makes you feel better about pissin all that extra money away go for it.

A guy really should have an Accumark and a Vanguard.  I have one of each. I probably should have a few more.

The duby disclaimer.   Warning the views expressed by duby do not represent the views of the station or its management.  If this had been an actual emergency you should have been running already.  On a serious note I have never heard anything good about beretta customer service.  Makes me wonder if they do any better job with Sako.

Nothing new it's been done on military rifles for a long time. Not sure what it gets you in a hunting rifle? Not much would be my guess.

A really ugly rifle will grow on a guy if it shoots tiny little groups.    Not sure how well that set up would work shooting prone.  Most tac gear I ever used was inherently ugly the beauty is in its function.   My Savage isnt tactical but it is ugly.  So maybe it qualifies.

That big goofy looking magazine just screams tactical.  To my eye it's almost as ugly as my old savage 112 in a Choate stock only it doesn't shoot as well.

223 Wylde should be a pretty easy thing to do on just about any good bolt action rifle.  I know this will bring out the experts but here goes anyway. Personally I wouldn't loose much sleep over firing 5.56 out of a bolt action rifle as long as you stay with 55 grain bullet loads. But that's just me.

The only rifles I would put up with anything over MOA from would be a lever actions. I sure wouldn't be taking 15 minutes to put three rounds down range.  I have sent a few down the road myself.  There comes a time when a guy just gets tired of messing around and wants to have it shoot already. I totally get the call to send it packing.  A rifle should be enjoyable not an exercise in futility.

A while back I managed to snap the tip off of my little Kershaw knife. It was a nice  little RJ Martine design and I was pretty bummed about it so I called them up to see if they had a blade for it.  They say yes and I fill out the repair ticket send it in going to cost me 10 bucks plus shipping.  So off it goes and I don't hear any thing back from them no big deal I am pretty busy I didn't really think about it for a while until the other day and realized it had been two months.  So I shoot them an email see what's up.  They send me one back apologizing for the delay and telling me that they don't have any parts for it.  They gave me voucher good for 65 dolled toward a new knife, sent me the link to the website with the 800 number said to call up when I see one I like and they would ship it out.  Well the knife I wanted was 80 bucks.  They paid the difference and the shipping.  I was initially a little irritated about the situation but to their credit they made it right.

Shoot that load at 300 yards and see if it's tumbling or not. It might not even be settled down at 100 yet. Know what I mean ? The only thing I ever had key hole on me was a really old M16 trying to shoot a newer load that had a heavy bullet in it. No doubt about that key hole at 100 meters they were going into the paper with the nose pointing at the dirt.

Varmint / Re: Crow Hunting with rifles
« on: April 20, 2015, 05:34:05 PM »
In Pa you can use pretty much whatever you can use for any varmint.  I have shot most of them with a .22 long rifle.  Only ever shot one I can recall with a center fire rifle. 6mm Rem with a 75gr Hornady HP at 325 yards. Worked ok.  The best way to hunt crows is with a 12 ga with an owl decoy and a good electronic call. Nothing a crow hates more than an owl.  The last two I shot were with an air rifle while they were trying to figure out how to get the lid open on the trash can at the curb.

If you look around in here a little there should be a bunch of threads on this topic.  I'm not a fan of pressure points and all the talk about a number two contour won't shoot well without having it jammed into a stock that pushes Into the barrel is just not true.  If it shoots for you out of the box great if not I guess you can send it back or set it up the way it works for you on your own.  But be aware that cheap injection molded stock isn't a good candidate to consider for free floating a barrel.  Too flimsy by far.   If you float it put a good stock on it first.  Good luck

If you are a rim fire target shooter or hunt with one you might as well just get out of California now.  And no more lead SWC for your revolvers. Your pellet gun is pretty much worthless now. The list goes on and on now doesn't it?  Are the cops banned from lead bullets now too I wonder?
