Ron, that is awesome, pass along my congrats to Norma as well. I would love to get out elk hunting some day. I might need to get a bigger freezer though! The last three deer I've taken, including a small buck I got a week ago, have all been using my 25-06 running a 117 Hornady Interlock BTSP @ around 2,900 fps. It is a really light recoiling, accurate load in my vanguard and dumps deer like they've been stuck by lightning.

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / A couple Mark V's for sale
« on: September 30, 2015, 05:16:03 AM »
Hey guys,

I know everyone is saving for the new 6.5-300, but thought I would share the link's to a couple Mark V's I have for sale:
http://www.armslist.com/posts/4732233/southeastern-pennsylvania-rifles-for-sale--weatherby-mark-v-fibermark---340-wby-mag
http://www.armslist.com/posts/4732225/southeastern-pennsylvania-rifles-for-sale--weatherby-mark-v-lazermark---7mm-wby-mag

The fibermark will make an excellent platform for that shiny new 6.5 cal barrel you have on order with your gunsmith :)

P.M. me if interested.

Thanks,

Jim,

Can't wait to hear how you make out. That bullet should be a real hammer. Were those 1450 yd shots from a 338-378?

I'm not sure what nosler is thinking here. We already have seen the 7STW and 7 RUM come and go. As duby mentioned, capacity on the RUM is greater than the nosler. I guess i don't see the sense in noslers move here, especially when i cam find a 7mm RUM for the 3rd the cost of the nosler rifle. The 26 made sense to me, this 28 does not. I guess it's a way to sell rifles and Accubond LR bullets. I'm all for guys buying whatever they want, i just want to know what the execs at nosler were thinking here.

Hey guys,

It's been a while since I've posted, but I had a minute and thought I would just check in. I can't believe another hunting season is almost behind us. My season will crescendo this next week as I head to the Northeastern part of my home state, PA, in pursuit of Whitetails and Black Bear. I just wanted wish everyone good luck if there are any hunts coming up before the year ends or would like to hear how everyone's fall has been so far. I've been lucky to get out every Saturday since Oct. 17 to either small game hunt (bagged a couple squirrels and three pheasants), hang a new deer stand, or sight rifles all while keeping my bosses at work and m.y MBA program professors happy. I hope to be back here on a more frequent basis, I miss the camaraderie. I wish you all the best.

Regards

Sorry guys for the late response. I just found out the other day. I am friends with Troy on facebook and was following the posts to his FB page the past couple of months and got the news the other day when I checked. It's a tough pill to swallow. Troy was a great guy always taking the time to offer advice or just B.S. I got to know him over the past couple years starting here on Weatherby nation. We only spoke on the phone a few times but we were often shooting texts back and forth about shooting, guns, etc. I spent some time the other day just going through the texts on my phone. It makes you wonder what if...I had sent a text, message, card, prayed a little more often, or something. He will be greatly missed. My regards and sympathies go out to his wife, Tammy, and the rest of his family and friends.

Reloading / Re: Load data for 150gr nosler ABLR for the .270 weatherby.

They don't give you just one load either, they provide a pdf of what is in their loading manual. You can download it and open it with adobe as well.

Let us know when you start shooting those ABLR's. That should be one amazing long range round. Keep us posted.

No one mentioned the 25-06 Rem. It's a dandy.

Check your scope and mounts. Make sure everything is tight. Swap on a scope that you know is good and see how the gun shoots then.

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Re: COAL VAN SER 2 7MM REM MAG

If you are measuring base to tip instead of base to ogive (using a comparator) you should definitely start .020 off the lands, not .002. Bullet tips are so inconsistent that if you start at .002 off, you will most likely end up with some loads touching or jammed into the lands and others that are off the lands. If you start at .020 off you are going to definitely have all of your loads jumping to the lands. Good luck, let us know how that 7mm shoots. I have loaded for 2 Vanguard Series 2 in 7mm Rem Mag and both are very accurate.

If I'm remembering correctly, your #1 contour will have a diameter of .500-.550 inches at the muzzle. A #2 will be closer to .625, I think. I don't know that it really matters though, you can always open up a stock to accomodate a larger barrel contour. Not sure I would start a rifle build based on a stock that you have. A build usually starts with the action. Then you can determine what cartridges will work in the action. If you find an action in good shape, you can sell the stock you have and buy a different stock to fit your action. Let us know what you find out and decide to do.
