« on: August 17, 2020, 05:47:10 PM »Weatherby factory ammo isn’t cheap and only a handful of other companies make Weatherby cartridge ammo. You can spend nearly as much money on factory ammo for the 300 Win Mag compared to a 300 Wby. Now is a great time to start reloading since you will gain better accuracy and spend far less money in the process, plus you can reload for other cartridges. All of this has been on this forum before, and it will likely rerun soon.
I'm new to the Weatherby family so bear with me.
Yes, Weatherby factory ammo is expensive as I've known for years. But finally getting my 300 Wby caused me to start searching. Low and behold, I am finding Weather Select in the $39/box range at various locations. Running about the same a Remington Core-Lok for my 300 Savage.
I was up in Billings a few weeks ago, stopped at Scheel’s and picked up the last 2 boxes of 300 Wby Select 180gr they had on the shelf for $37.99/box. Found some 165gr Select online for $39.99/box.
In comparing those prices to Remington Core-Lok for .243 Win, .270 Win, .308 Win, .30-06, Wby Select really isn't that much more expensive. Just 300 Wby brass runs $35±/box so a few bucks more for loaded Select seems like a bargain to then have the brass for my own reloading.
