The weather guard is a vanguard. I'm sure it doesn't have pillars, I can't get sufficient torque on the bolts, not without binding the bolt up.

Brownells should have them.
Got it. I'll check there. I think that's one of the few places I haven't looked.

I don't know about Cabelas Canada but I don't ever recall seeing them on sale at the Cabelas near me.

:o  I never been to Alabama, but common, is this really such a big problem of old dudes knocking up females, as that they going to try to pass a law like this.

Rob
I live in Alabama... I never knew of any such problem. Or any threat of over population... I'm not sure where the **#/ this came from......

Rifles / Re: Considering a .257 Weatherby Magnum
« on: January 16, 2020, 07:27:12 PM »
I've never owned a Weatherby before, and I'm considering a Vanguard in .257 Wby Mag. I've been told it's just about the best deer cartridge ever and kills them like a death ray. Here in western NY, most of my shots are 100 yards or less. I would also like to use it for coyotes. Is it overkill at shorter ranges? How is the meat damage? And is it as loud as I've heard? Several guys have told me that it's the last deer rifle I'll ever buy, it's that good. Thoughts?
I own two Vanguard's. One in 300Wby and one in my beloved 257Wby.

I'd say go for it. The Vanguard is a very solid and accurate rifle and with the right bullet the 257Wby (like Para said) hits like Thor's Hammer at close and long range.

I haven't noticed it being any louder than a 270.

Thank you for sharing that Shelby. I'm a little late finding this out but I offer my condolences. I always enjoyed reading his post

My favorite bullet hands down is the Sierra GameKings and ProHunters. They shoot great in all my rifles and they do good damage!!! I've even used them in my 257Wby at ranges as close as 25yds with no problem BUT I DID MAKE IT A POINT TO STAY AWAY FROM THE SHOULDER.

The 180gr Sierra ProHunters are my go to in my 300Wby.

I've just recently started playing around with Speer SPBT's and Hornady SST's but haven't tried them on game yet.

BTE,  bore tech eliminator is the only thing to use for copper fouling. Try it once and you won't go back to what you were using.
I have some of that coming in mail. How exactly do you use it? Do you let it soak for an hour or two or just use it like a regular bore cleaner?

Sorry I didn't see your question sooner! I usually use it like a regular bore cleaner 5-10 minutes, I have tried letting it soak but haven't noticed any big improvement. Have you tried using it if its already arrived?
I haven't received it yet. Scheduled delivery is Jan 2nd

I put those exact mounts on my M70 Ftw. I did hesitate because of the price... But at the end of the day I'm very pleased with the fit and finish.

I started out looking for Talley's and really don't remember why I ended up getting these

Have I missed something since I've been in Japan. I've been here since Sep 25th. What happened to Cabelas?
