Rifles / Re: New Vanguard - Cerakote Grey wth Laminated Stock
« on: December 11, 2018, 10:08:25 AM »
Has anyone heard of the accuracy with these?
I am considering a new one of these in .243 at a great price.
I am sure they will shoot well as is and I really do not want to mess with trying to bed the rifle.
I have never owner a Boyd Stock but if Weatherby and Boyd did their homework it should be a great fit.

Thanks!

Great information! Thanks for sharing. Just today I was pondering the same process for my S2 carbine .223. You made me a believer !

Thanks! I have thought about keeping my little vanguard carbine and putting a bell and Carlson stock on it. My concern would does the bell and Carlson out any pressure in that #1 contour barrel? I have read that the smaller barrels don’t shoot as well if free floated. U guess I could call bell and Carlson and ask them.

I love my Accuguard with the heavy free floated barrel and ball and Carlson stock. I wish you could find a caliber you like!

Look at the features and value in the Accuguard. I love my .270 win. I have accuguard in .223 and.243 and they shoot great. I purchased the Accuguard because of the bell and Carlson stick and heavy free floated barrel.

My accuguard shoots Barnes 130 grain the best. All of my gunshot Barnes great. They shhot the Fusion good also but I think the Barnes is cleaner.

Rifles / Vanguard h-bar rc help

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I am thankful for family first of all of course. I am also thankful for my 3 Weatherby rfiles.

I purchased my first Weatherby Vangyard in 2010 in .243 and after installing a Tunney trigger it shoots fantastic. I purchased a S2 .223 carbine the following year and live it. This year I purchased the Accuguard in .270 and love it.

I keep my little 20” .223 handy in my deer blind for shooting coyotes in South Texas. I am considering upgrading to a new Vanguard h-bar rc with the free floated heavy barrel and bell and Carlson stock.

I know it weighs 8.5 pounds but since I don’t carry it much I am not overly concerned with weight. With a great barrel, stick and trigger I should not have to make any upgrades.

What are your opinions if the h-bar rc?

I can purchase this gun in 22” without threads for $799 or the latest version with 20” barrel and threads for $950.

I do not plan to add a suppressor so I do not think I need threads.

My only concern is the extra 2” of length and additional .25 lbs.

Which would you choose?

Thx!

I have a S2 Vanquard in 243 and 223 and they shhot as good as my other 10 scoped rifles. I am very happy with the action, trigger, barrel and accuracy. I considering a new accuguard now in 270 win. I have been shooting and hunting for over 50 years and have stay with “non Weatherby calibers” due to the costs and choice of ammo. I live the 300 win mag for anything in North America.

Thanks to all for your info. I am more fond of the Vanguard action and price tag. I know the Mark V has a strong history and a loyal base but after handling several at collectors firearms I can not justify the price difference. I know the Vanqyards are solid and shoot well so I am leaning towards the accuguard with #3 contour in 270 win. Thanks!

Thanks to all. The Weathermark 270 comes with a #1 contour barrel. Should one be concerned with such a skinny barrel? Not sure I want to spend the extra $500 for the Mark V. The accuguard comes with a #3 barrel and is listed as 8 lbs.

Currently own 10 long guns with scopes. Own a vanguard in.223 and .243 and they shhot great. In the market for a new .270 win for large whitetail in South Texas. Trying to decide between the wilderness, accuguard or weathermark. Like the idea of the weather protection and the composite stock. The Mark V is about $500 more but have read the trigger, barrel and action is worth it.

Own enough guns and enjoy shooting them all during the off season and rotate them around during the season.

We hunt in blinds so the extra 1/2 to 1 lb extra weight of the accuguard is not a concern.

All of my guns shoot about 2” groups at 200 yards or they get traded or sold. That is as good as my 65 year old eyes can shoot.

Which of the 3 guns above would you opt for in 270 Win and why?

Thanks and Merry Xmas!!!
