Rifles / Re: Weatherby Mark V Back Country

I have a standard backcountry in 6.5 creedmoor. I have a VX5HD 3-15x44 on it and it weighs 7lbs. It might be the most accurate gun I own. I liked it so much I wanted another. So I ordered a Backcountry Ti in 257 weatherby. Plan on running the same scope so that setup should be around 7 1/2lbs.

The recoil pad really does a great job, not that the 6.5 creedmoor kicks. You will have to store the gun barrel down as the pads like to deform from the weight of the gun, but they do return to their original shape.

I wouldn’t be concerned about the 300 weatherby in the backcountry. Was tempted to get it instead of the 257 on the Ti action. Between the brake and the pad you will be fine.

I haven't received my tickets in the mail yet, purchased them 12/8. I am assuming I will be notified if I win or is there a way to figure out what numbers are on my 4 tickets?

Hope everyone had a great Christmas.

I have a Wyoming made Terramark in 7mm weatherby mag. Just love the fit and finish of it and very accurate, just a little on the heavy side 10lbs field ready. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the accumark based Mark V’s (arroyo, accumark, terramark, first lite, etc) Now I do have the new Backcountry in 6.5-300 and it seems to be a fantastic rifle, but it definitely has a different feel to it. Really think the Monte Carlo stocks fits me much better.

If I had one right now, I’d be thinking the exact same thing you are. The two scopes that come to the top of my mind are the Swaro Z5 and the Vortex Razor Lightweight Hunter 3-15. 100% personal preference though. If you like dialing over BDC hashes, probably hard to beat some of the Leupolds.

I have that Vortex Razor and also a swaro z3 4-12 and love them both. Amazing glass and very lightweight.

I really think the Leupold VX5HD is a good glass to weight ratio. I will be running a 3-15x44 and it comes in at 19oz. Now I wouldn’t hesitate to put a Vortex Razor HD LH 3-14x42 on it either at 16.5oz. I wish Vortex would offer different reticles though. Really don’t think you could go wrong with either. I mainly run leupold scopes and Vortex bino’s and soon to be spotting scope.

Looks like they changed your opening day to the Saturday after Thanksgiving instead of the following Monday. They should have done that years ago. Good luck in the Keystone State.

Yes they did and after all them saying we're going to get Sunday hunting we didn't.  Now the idea they're pushing is to get it for three Sundays and then work on making it across the board.

This coming Saturday is rifle bear and the following 3 are all deer season. Hopefully fill the freezer with 3 doe tags, buck tag, and bear tag. I am curious as to what happens next year with those 3 Sunday’s.

Thanks everyone for the replies. It’s about to get hectic these next four weeks for rifle bear and deer season here in PA, so it will sit in the safe until after hunting season. I am hoping it shoots the factory 127 Barnes into tiny groups. They should be deadly for anything they hit. There are so many nice features, but the new trigger tech trigger is unreal. Never had a trigger with no creep, it’s literally like breaking glass. IMO Weatherby knocked it out of the park on these new rifles.

My Backcountry arrived at my dealer this week. I went with the 6.5-300 over the 7mm only because it was a better deal. The fit and finish is awesome and it’s super lightweight. Can’t wait to get it setup with leupold dual dovetail mounts and VX5HD scope.

Had a 7mm wby on order, dealer called me today said a 6.5-300 was available. I told them I’ll take it. Can’t wait to get it.

You have lots of 7mm experience. I guess you must ask how it has worked for you. There is no need to fix what isn't broken.

I actually just got the 7mm Weatherby Terramark this year. I scoped it up last night and sighted it in today. It’s a dream to shoot especially with the Accubrake, doesn’t recoil at all. Groups factory 150gr ballistic tips very well. My only complaint is the weight and 1-10 barrel twist. Weatherby went to a 1-8.5 twist in the new rifles to run 160gr and up so it seems like a no brainer.

I stopped at my local FFL this morning and placed an order for a Backcountry in 7mm weatherby mag. After sighting in my Terramark in 7mm weatherby this morning it sealed the deal for me.

Going to be using my Terramark for PA rifle season this year in 7mm wby mag. Highly considering trading it off after this hunting season for the New Mark V Backcountry (wanting to shed some weight) in either 6.5-300 or 7mm wby mag. Now I already have 243,270,and 30-06, but I want a one size fits all for my go to rifle. My main hunting is whitetail and black bear, with possible pronghorn, mule deer, and elk hunts in the future. What would you choose and why?

Thanks

I am surprised of all the hate towards the new cartridge. I like the idea of it and applaud Adam for thinking outside of the box. I think it will make a great cartridge for the wifey in a Camilla ultra lightweight.
