Gents, I'm selling my "Outfitter" 270 WBY. Bought new in 2012 from WBY Custom Shop. It's basically an ULW Mark V with desert camo stock and teflon-coating on barreled action. I'm including "Flying W" 30mm Talley rings and bases. Fantastic rifle and well cared for--shoots great and exterior is in excellent condition. Have shot approximately 100 rounds. Selling only because there's another rifle that's caught my eye.

Price includes 18 x rounds of new/factory 140 gr ballistic tip and like-new sling

$1,000 shipped to your door.

Please contact me at chaplainkramer@yahoo.com if interested; can send more pictures also.

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Factory Ammo Availability?
« on: December 30, 2021, 06:18:09 PM »
Guys, i haven't been on here in a couple of years--my bad!

I've been shooting my SigArms 308, and my 270 Outfitter has been sitting in the safe. That said, I'm down to about a dozen 140 grain ballistic tip rounds for my rifle. I don't have the time or equipment to reload. Is anyone getting factory ammo ANYWHERE these days? If so, how?

Thx and Happy New Year!

Guys, sorry it's taken so long to get these pictures up.  Believe it or not, I broke my ankle last week on a parachute jump here at Fort Benning.  Uggh!!

Anyway, this is my Mark V Accumark in 7mm WBY purchased new in 2013.  I then sent the stock to B&C for the "desert" pattern and sent the barreled action to Bear Coat for a full Teflon job on all metal--barrel, bolt, receiver, etc (that is the same vendor used by the WBY Custom Shop at the time).  My intent was to make the Accumark look just like my 270 WBY Mark V Outfitter.  It definitely looks just like the Outfitter.  I also added Talley rings with the "Flying W" on them (included with this rifle).

The only blemish on this rifle is a slight streak in the Teflon just above the "Mark V" stamp (occurred as they applied the Teflon at Bear Coat)--see pictures.

I've put about 15 rounds down the barrel.  Basically I hardly ever shoot it because I always default to my 270 Outfitter.  And now I want to buy my wife a Christmas present and need some money.

So I am parting with this like-new, custom rifle for far less than it's worth.  The first $1,000 gets it shipped to your location.  Hit me up directly at chaplainkramer@yahoo.com if you're interested.  Thanks!

Is it OK to get y’alls opinion about this—I’m not sure what the rules are on this forum about getting sales opinions.

So I’m thinking about selling one of my rifles in order to buy my wife a particular Christmas present.  Not sure if I’m going to do it, but if I go for it then I want to move it quickly.  It’s a like-new Mark V 7mm WBY Accumark (15 rounds down the barrel—that’s it) with a B&C “Desert” stock with Teflon barrel and action I bought new in 2013.  I wanted it to be exactly like the 270 WBY Outfitter I already owned, so it’s basically got the same features (in fact, I had Bear Coat do the Teflon—the same vendor who does WBY’s custom shop rifles).  I’m also throwing in the currently-mounted Talley rings and bases with “Flying W” engraved on them.  I’m thinking about asking $900.  Seems like a steal at that price that will give me some money for my wife’s gift.

Sorry, I don’t have pics as Shutterfly has blocked me.  Just picture a brand-new Accumark that looks just like an Outfitter.

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / 270 Outfitter Strikes Again
« on: January 17, 2016, 07:37:38 PM »
Last day of Georgia rifle season ended well -- the 270 Outfitter destroyed this buck with a 140-grain ballistic tip.  I love overlooking a pasture with this rifle and a 20x scope!

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Wyoming Unit 9 for Antelope?
« on: February 03, 2014, 02:48:24 PM »
I've mostly been an East Coast guy all my life (even during my time in the Marines and Army), but we recently moved to Fort Leavenworth, KS.  I've never hunted "out West" before, but I'm thinking about a DIY antelope hunt in Wyoming this Fall.  I think I'd like to apply for Unit 9.  I've heard that finding "accessible" public land isn't always easy in some of the eastern units, but it looks like there's a decent chunk of "state" land west of Lusk, WY which is accessible along Hwy 270.  Looks like I could easily walk 2-3 miles off the road in either direction and hunt.

I'll only be at Fort Leavenworth until December (then it's time to go back East), so I want to actually hunt this Fall versus trying to accumulate preference points.

I would appreciate any insights from the forum members--seems like there are a lot of you guys with experience out West.

Thanks and God bless!

Haven't posted in a while, but would like to brag about my 270 WBY Outfitter.  Hunted over Christmas leave down in Georgia on our way to Fort Leavenworth.  My 10-year-old daughter and I hunted from an old windmill overlooking a large pasture where a larger buck had been hanging out.  I made a "range card" in my head with targets out to 450 yards (the pasture actually stretched out past 1000 yards).  On our last night in Georgia, saw 13 does and 2 large hogs earlier in the evening.  Then just a few minutes before end of legal shooting, an 8 point stepped out at 325 yards (not the big one we were after, unfortunately, but still nice).  I had put a sand bag in my assault pack and had a rock-solid prone set up, so I took a poke at him.  The 140 grain Accubond ripped through his shoulder and heart then exited...he leaped about 10 yards and piled up.

Thanks be to God for great times with my daughter and for a solid shot (the longest killing shot I've ever made).

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Hendershots
« on: May 22, 2012, 04:46:04 PM »
My wife and I were on a get away this weekend and drove through Hagerstown, MD.  So I decided to stop at Hendershots and see what their store was all about.  It's definitely an up-scale gun shop where Weatherby was in the mid-range of their stock.  Among other WBYs, they had 2 DGRs in Desert Camo--a 460 and a 416.  Very nice!  They also had the largest stock of WBY factory ammo I've ever seen in one place, to include a few factory boxes of WBY 338-06 (never seen that on a shelf before).  Plus, they had an amazing collection of game mounts.

Overall, a great time.

Anybody else ever been to Hendershots, either in Hagerstown or at their old place in Hancock?

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Full Metal Jousting?
« on: March 03, 2012, 06:28:17 PM »
Anybody seen the new show called Full Metal Jousting?  Those guys are getting knocked right off of their horses--BANG!  As I watch a little bit this evening, I wonder how getting hit in the shoulder with one of those things compares to shooting the big 460 without a brake?

10
Well, I think I'd like to add one of the bigger WBYs to my arsenal, but I don't like brakes (or a rifle where you take the brake off and put on a thread protector).  I see a few guys talk about shooting a 378 w/o a brake; others talk about a 340 w/o a brake.  I like how a 375 WBY looks on paper--haven't ever shot one.

Anyway, let's hear it from you guys who have shot big WBYs w/o brakes!

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Gas prices and rifle calibers
« on: February 28, 2012, 05:23:33 PM »
As I drove home today in gridlock traffic, I passed several gas stations and observed the prices.  Since I was bored out of my mind, I began to see rifle calibers in the gas prices:  375 WBY, 378 WBY, and yes even the dreaded 416 WBY.

Hopefully I'm not seeing the 505 Gibbs anytime soon!

Well guys, I've been out of the loop for a while on another "all-expenses-paid-vacation" overseas.  Now I'm back CONUS and we've moved to Fairfax, VA for duty in DC.

Looking for a range/rifle club around here.  Fairfax Rod and Gun looks amazing, but it's crazy expensive--not sure I want to spend $1,500 for membership fee and $350 yearly dues (maybe I'm just cheap).

Quantico looks OK . . . maybe.

Any other ideas?

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Horus reticle
« on: May 29, 2011, 07:47:21 AM »
Any of you guys familiar with (or using) a Horus reticle?  I got acquainted with these in the past few months as several of our guys at work are now using them.  I think "reticle" isn't the best word for it--maybe "grid" is better.

It looks very complicated, but I'm told that once you use one for a while they're really quick for hold-overs, etc.  After all, there's not much time to dial in and engage targets when you're out hunting bad guys!

I prefer a TMR myself, but if I had unlimited trigger time and budget like my guys do, then I might reconsider.

Well, after several months out of town (WAY out of town), I got back and also got my 22-250 back.  Man, I'm excited!

Right before leaving, I bought a near-new SVM in 22-250 from a guy and posted some "before" pics on the Nation.  I sent the barreled action to Rocky Mountain Arms for their "bearcoat" (basically a teflon finish on all metal surfaces) and sent the stock to B&C to be refinished in their "desert" pattern.  I wanted the rifle to match the Outfitter that my wife bought me last year--thus, the name "Varmint-fitter".   :)

I think I got a pretty good deal on the upgrades: the stock was only $40 since B&C gave me a military discount, and the teflon work was $200 (which included shipping).  BTW, RMA is the vendor which the Weatherby Custom Shop uses for their teflon work, and I would have paid $400 if I had it done through Weatherby.

So I couldn't wait to get home, re-assemble my rifle, and SHOOT it.  After mounting a VX-3 6.5-20 x 50 (TMR reticle) on Talley bases and rings and adding a Harris bi-pod, I finally made it to the range this afternoon.  Well, after zeroing at 100 yds, I only had time to shoot two groups (all Winchester factory rounds):

55 gr. SP @ .93"
50 gr. BT @ .82"

In both groups, the first two rounds were touching and the third moved out a bit.  There's some performance-oriented tweaking I'd like to do eventually, but overall I'm pleased with the accuracy.

Now it's time to back out to 400-500 yds and put this TMR reticle to work!

And a few of the "before" pics . . .

Well, I went to a gun show in Columbus, GA this morning.  I haven't been to one in 4 years.  Why?  Because I tend to see the same stuff at every show: AR-15s galore, junky military guns from 60+ years ago, a few decent hunting guns (not many), and assorted items that only a full-fledged militia member would buy.  But today I thought, "Maybe this one will be different." But it was the same old same old.

I did see 2 x WBY Deluxe models, both of which were ancient and in poor condition.

So I'm done with gun shows for good . . . maybe.

P.S. -- I do think gun shows are good for one thing, and that's to sell a gun.  Whenever I've walked in with something I want to sell, I've never had it in my hands for more than 15 minutes before it's gone. (You know, there are guys there with a big wad of cash burning a hole in their pockets, so I've always been able to get a decent price for my stuff.)  But then you have to have the discipline to walk out and not spend the cash on something at the show.

Just my opinion.  What do you guys think?
