I just read about these being made off shore and Ford cut off all production in the USA.
Ford now produces them 100% made in China since it is a very popular model there and ships them to the USA.
But GM does the same thing with the Buick SUV also. China is the only reason GM still makes a Buick since it is very popular there.
And Volvo S90 is also made 100% in China.

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / 1911 dove tail scope mount
« on: February 05, 2023, 06:22:58 PM »
I shot precision handgun competition and my primary .45 1911 is in for a new barrel so I needed a backup to shoot till I get it back from the pistol smith. Having a custom 1911 .45 hard ball pistol the likely thing to do was scope it but I needed to be able to remove the rear sight and replace it with out a making it a major operation.
A new friend on another forum offered to make one for me. When I asked him how much he said just pay the shipping for the slide since he needed it to fit the base. Not to be one to look a gifted horse in the mouth I said what is your shipping address and boxed up the slide and ups it to him.
He had the base made before I could get it boxed and shipped. It's on it's way back home as I write.
The mount is a short picatinny rail fitted to the dove tail with a locking screw that fits in the rear sight elevation screw hole.
Here's some pictures of what it looks like on my slide.

My Grandson is home on leave after returning from the Sand Box.
At one time he was stationed in Syria and was in charge of taking care of the Garison flag that flew over the base and presented it to his grandmother and I with a certificate of authenticity.

We are so happy and proud of him.

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Water Jug Test
« on: December 15, 2021, 03:53:41 PM »
After powder coat some pistol bullets with good results I thought I would coat some pellets for one of my pellet rifles since the barrel chamber is a tad loose and if your not careful the pellet will fall out before you close the action up. Powder coating increases the OD of any bullet you coat by .001".

So I filled 2 gallon milk jugs with water and set them up at 30yds for the test.
I thought the first jug would catch the pellet but to my surprise both pellets made it into the second jug.
The pellets retained about 99% of the paint.

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / New Resident
« on: July 23, 2021, 10:46:42 AM »
For the life of me I can't figure out why this guy took up residence in a bird feeder I have stored in my shed.
It's a eastern Garter snake and is harmless and I don't want to kill it but I don't want him to surprise me when I move things around and bite me.
I have chased him off a couple of times but he keeps coming back.

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Scope Sale
« on: April 19, 2021, 01:36:54 PM »
Natchez is having a 54% off sale on select Bushnell Nitro scopes.
2-10x44 30mm SF SFP Deploy MOA Reticle $179.99 and the FFP same scope for $229.99 along with the 5-20X44 30mm SF SFP Deploy MOA Reticle for $229.99.
I use these on my spring air rifles and are tuff as nails and have to be to take the double recoil action of a spring air rifle.
Someone looking to try a first focal plane scope it would be an inexpensive way to try one.
