Rifles / Rechambering
« on: June 09, 2023, 09:14:37 AM »
With all of the options of the 6.5 chambering I chose a Vanguard in 6.5 x55.  I've been playing with the idea of put an Ackley 40° shoulder on it. All of my research and a 13.9% improvement in performance has had me going about this for a while now. It's the 6.5x 284 performance with 8 to 10 grains less. The barrel life remains the same. Dies are pricey Redding. A very little accuracy difference when fireforming parent cartridge. For about $500 can have this done.

The other day at work I got me a whitetail with the Freightliner.   The deer darted in front of me , was waiting for the speed bump, but it never happened.  Turns out that youngster was lucky. The little bugger had the timing down to almost perfect, I clipped the soft tissue part of his back legs, spun it 180° clipped its nose with the half fender of the duels on the way by, rolled it into the ditch, then it got up and on unsure legs made it's way slowly to the willows. A day or two later drove by there was no sign of ravens or coyotes in the area so I think it wasn't injured to badly, maybe just some pride got injured. I was just wondering if there was any feline blood on them now ....lol

Optics / Good News
« on: March 30, 2022, 12:45:48 PM »
The day I feared is here my Nikon  Monarch 5 bit the big one. Orange halo around outside out one of the lenses when you look thru. So I  got on the phone tried Nikon U.S out of toll free area. Then Nikon Canada on the phone and found out if they cant replace, but they can repair, sub it for another product or they will buy it back for the original purchase price. Seems to good to be true. There is one factor, a warranty report and the bill of sale. Found the the hard one because it was bought in 2018, now it is just fill out a report and copy the bill of sale then send it off to see what happens.  I personally would be happy if they fixed it, but if the want to buy back I'm good with the Swarovski z3 that will be replacing it.

Buddies son snapped these in the zone he is drawn in. Taken around Tompkins, Saskatchewan. Looks like he could use another 2",  still a good looking buck.

Found this nice Pronghorn buck heading towards some trees for shade. It was taken just a short drive from Big Muddy rancher in RM 51 Reno about 17 miles south of Robsart, Sk.

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Heat wave going on here.
« on: July 01, 2021, 01:45:07 PM »
Sure is warm here for the past few days been in the mid 90's to 104° here. Not bad if your in the shade at least there is a wind. The day it was 104 the wind didn't help much even in the shade. Sure makes you drop weight just got to stay hydrated. Just thinking back the last time we had this intensity was about 50 years ago. The good thing is it's supposed to be cooling in the next few so should be conditioned for the heat by then then won't be so bad if there is another go around.

This is too funny not to share!!

FIRST TIME SEX
A girl asks her boyfriend to come over Friday night to meet and have dinner with her parents.
Since this is such a big event, the girl announces to her boyfriend that after dinner, she would like to go out and make love for the first time.
The boy is ecstatic, but he has never had sex before, so he takes a trip to the pharmacist to get some condoms. He tells the pharmacist it's his first time and the pharmacist helps the boy for about an hour. He tells the boy everything there is to know about condoms and sex.
At the register, the pharmacist asks the boy how many condoms he'd like to buy, a 3-pack, 10-pack, or family pack.
The boy insists on the family pack because he thinks he will be rather busy, it being his first time and all.
That night, the boy shows up at the girl's parents house and meets his girlfriend at the door.
"Oh, I'm so excited for you to meet my parents, come on in!"
The boy goes inside and is taken to the dinner table where the girl's parents are seated.
The boy quickly offers to say grace and bows his head. A minute passes and the boy is still deep in prayer, with his head down.
10 minutes pass and still no movement from the boy.
Finally, after 20 minutes with his head down, the girlfriend leans over and whispers to the boyfriend, 'I had no idea you were this religious..'
The boy turns and whispers back,
'I had no idea your father was a pharmacist.'

Well finally back to a good pay job. Found a 340 accumark with accubrake for 2300+ tax cdn, hopefully it is still there when I have enough for downpayment to bring it in. Checking Weatherby website and apparently the Accumark is lighter than the Deluxe. Never would have thought that. Dont think it will be gone because everyone goes for the 300 or 338-378, it's kind of a forgotten chambering to most people except true Weatherby fans who know it's potential. So work my ass off and save, hopefully it's still there when I have money. For the optics just toying with thought of a Z5 with a BRH reticle.
